Safeco Field Tickets Information

Safeco Field is situated in Seattle, Washington in the neighborhood of SoDo which is located near the Interstate 90. It is the home field of the Major Baseball League franchise called the ‘Seattle Mariners’. Its owners are Washington-King County Stadium Authority. The idea for its construction came up in 1994. The main impetus for building it was the requirement of a stadium which would be suitable to the needs of the Mariners. Its predecessor was the Kingdome which came under doubt in the early 1990s as it was rapidly deteriorating. The owners of the team issued the threat of relocating the team if the conditions were not changed. As a result, the administration of King County decided to increase taxation by 0.1% to fund the construction process. Public went against this decision. However, public opinion changed that very season when Edgar Martínez hit “The Double” and won the 1995 American League Division Series for Seattle. The match secured baseball’s future in the city. Consequently, the construction of Safeco Field began in September, 1997. The stadium was completed in two years and opened to public in July, 1999. It was named after the company, Safeco Insurance, which is based in Seattle. The company bought the naming rights for US$40 million.

Safeco Field is a nice blend of the old and the new. Like ballparks of the 1950s, it has a façade of bricks, an asymmetrical playing field, and it is located in the midst of a busy section of the city constituting streets, buildings and a railroad. On the other hand, it has many modern features. It is a multi-purpose stadium with a retractable roof. The roof acts as an umbrella for spectators, field and stands. It is only closed on rare occasions. The only other roof to have the features of Safeco roofs is one that is situated in Saitama, Japan.

Moreover, Safeco Field has luxury suites as well as modern amenities for players. Nintendo DS receivers are installed to display special features of the game. There are numerous LED scoreboards so that you can easily know the score no matter in which part of the stadium you are. It is also certified by the ADA. The restaurants and food services provide a wide range of delicious stuff which is not normally available at ballparks. From sushi to garlic fries to health food, the stadium has it all. Lastly, it has a seating capacity of almost forty-eight thousand baseball fans.

Other interesting features include a baseball museum, Mariners Hall of Fame and beautiful art display. On the whole, we can say that, besides being pitcher-friendly field, Safeco is a spectator-friendly stadium. So Safeco Field tickets are a must-buy if you want to have a great time out!
