Majestic Theatre - Dallas Tickets Information
The Majestic Theatre Dallas is situated in the heart of the city on Elm Street. The area was full of entertainment venues but Elm Street stood out since it housed a row of theatres. The Majestic Theatre, off course was the best out of the lot. The building itself was considered as Dallas landmark. It wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that the Theatre represented Dallas not only in the United States but also in the rest of the world. It was built by a dynamic team of Karl Hoblitzelle and John Eberson in 1920. It opened its doors to the patrons of art a year after. Interstate Amusement Company was the owner and it was built with a hefty sum of $2 million. The Theatre had seating for 2,800, and was built since another theatre with the same name had burnt down.
Originally, the building housed both a theatre and the business offices of the owing company, Interstate Amusement Company. The majesty of this Theatre could be gauged from a fact that its auditorium and lobby consisted of Corinthian columns, with Vermont marble floor, further decorated with a marble fountain, ferns, brass mirrors, and crystal chandeliers. It also had a caged elevator serving the Theatre’s two elegantly designed balconies. While these arrangements were unique enough, the auditorium further had a ceiling of floating clouds glittered with twinkling stars, controlled mechanically.
In 1976, the City of Dallas assumed ownership of the Theatre and the venue subsequently went under a spell of renovation and refurbishment. The exterior remains the way it was, the interior however has changed in some respects. After installing new seats their capacity has been reduced to 1,570. Balconies have been restructured to accommodate box seating, and installation of better light and sound systems. The backstage has been enlarged and the main stage has been installed with a new floor. The better version of Majestic Theatre was reopened in 1983 and has been the site for best performing art activities in the city ever since.
True fans of performing arts have always thronged the Theatre for dance competitions, national pageants, dramatic plays and musicals. It is also the venue in the city of Dallas for musical concerts.
