Camp Randall Stadium Tickets Information

Camp Randall Stadium takes its name from the grounds it lies on, which served as training camps for the Union Army through the Civil War years. Initially, the site was planned to be used for building lots until, owing to a veteran outcry, it was purchased by the state and handed to the university. The grounds were then pressed to be used for athletics, and were used originally for track and field in 1895, before the baseball or football teams moved there. At the time, the stadium featured wooden bleachers that not only gave maintenance problems but by 1914, were also labeled unsafe. After the collapse of three bleachers sections in a 1915 game, funds were readily granted by the state for reconstruction so that the new arena opened its doors for the first time in 1917. It now comprised of seventy-five hundred seats. In the following years, the stadium has been renovated regularly for various purposes including the addition for horseshoe openings, removal of tracks, and for the addition of rows in its stages, seats, upper decks and boxes all along the its eastern rim. By 2002, the arena underwent yet another reconstruction project that would add a five-story office building, luxury boxes and separate offices for the football program.
Among many events, Camp Randall Stadium has become popular for hosting the many traditions of the Badgers football team including The Fifth Quarter, The Wave, Jump Around and The ESFU Chant. Interesting features of the stadium’s Athletic Complex include three facilities namely the Field House, the Dave McClain Sport Facility and its Memorial Sports Center. The Field House is home to the wrestling and volleyball activities of Wisconsin, while the latter is an indoor practice facility for football, constructed to honor the Badgers’ late coach Dave McClain.
