Fidelio is interestingly the only opera that Beethoven composed and famous librettist Joseph Sonnleithner translated into German from French. Main characters apart from Leonore (Soprano) are Florestan (Leonore’s prisoner husband- tenor), Rocco (prison guard-bass), Marzelline (daughter-soprano), Don Pizzaro (governor of the prison-bass-baritone) and Don Fernande (king’s minister-bass). The opera uses instruments like clarinets, flutes, piccolo, strings, timpani, horns and trumpets.
