Penn Relays Tickets Information

The inaugural edition of the Penn Relays was held on 21st April, 1895 but the seeds for it were sown two years earlier than that. Frank B.Ellis was the University of Pennsylvania track committee’s head and he wanted to start a competition to improve the profile of relay running. The enthusiasm about the concept was shared by Princeton University who sent four athletes to take part in a quarter-mile relay race against the University of Pennsylvania. Princeton came out on top in that race but hosts extracted their revenge the very next year. These two races generated so much interest that Frank and Co decided to start a proper relay meet in 1895 as a tribute to the University’s newly built Franklin Field. The relay was named the Penn Relays Carnival, a name that remains to this day the official title of the competition.

A total of nine different relay races completed the line-up for the debut Penn Relays which included four events for the prep schools and high school races, four relays for colleges and in the end a single college championship. Six prep schools, eight colleges and another two high schools made their way to the even to make it a roaring success. The popularity of the 1895 edition led to the next event being attended by a huge number of teams so much so that a time limit had to be set in order to make everything go smoothly. Over the years the event has seen a lot more relay events being added to its repertoire. The Penn Relays are held on the very last week of April with the final day being staged on the final Saturday of the month. The Penn Relays ticket is in huge demand because the competition has become such a huge rage that attendances, especially for the last three days of the event constantly top the hundred thousand mark.

Another wonderful event, USA vs The World, was added in the 2010 Penn Relays edition that pitted the country’s stars against global icon like Usain Bolt, Alfred Kirwa and Shelly Ann Frazer. The event toppled all previous attendance records due to the immense hype it generated. It has now become a symbol of excellence and historic significance that is attended by athletes from abroad as well.  So if outdoor sports are what you are into then Penn Relays ticket is all that you need to be a part of this historically epic competition.
