Orlando City Soccer Club, founded in 2010, is a professional American soccer team that participates from the American Division in the USL Professional Division, which is American Soccer Pyramid’s third tier. Orlando Pro Soccer, the original identity of the ownership group, was announced in March 2010 with initial affiliation with the team, Orlando National Titans Lacrosse League. The new team was announced in October, when Rawlins made it official that he intended to bring Orlando a Major League Soccer franchise within the next five year, while also arranging international games in the city. At present, Rawlins is the majority owner and President of Orlando Sports Holdings, the ownership group of the club. By 2012, this newly formed team, became the champion of its second regular season but was swept out form the playoff by Wilmington Hammerheads in the semi-finals.
The team is currently plays its home games at the spacious Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando with a seating capacity of seventy thousand. The team’s 2012 season attracted a crowd of more than sixty-nine thousand on average per game, marking the highest average within the league. In February 2013, it was announced that Fifth Third Bank has bought naming rights to the stadium for the team’s games. Under the Lions management, the team is seeking to relocate to a smaller stadium with a twenty-thousand seating capacity that is soon to be built after the team’s enters into MLS. After playing a very successful initial season, the club has acquired controlling interests in the Kraze, which it has renamed Orlando City U-23. In addition, it purchased controlling interest in the youth soccer club of Florida Soccer Alliance, and named it after itself. This club now has many teams participating in the famous USL Super Y-League.
