New Orleans Voodoo is a football team which is based in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, as its name suggests. It is a team of the Arena Football League. It is one of the best football teams present and their performance on field is considered to be legendary.
New Orleans Voodoo, initiallyparticipated in the Arena Football League from the year 2004 till 2008, when the league shelves its operations. At that time, the team was owned in partnership by the owner of the ‘New Orleans Saints’ of the National Football League, Tom Benson . Then in 2010, an announcement was made that another franchise would join the newly updated AFL and would carry on the name of the New Orleans Voodoo long with its history. On the 10 th of September, it was made public that ‘Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings’ was the team which would transfer to New Orleans and would be given the history, logo, the name as well as the team colors of the New Orleans Voodoo. The team has the New Orleans Arena as its home ground and its team colors are white, red, tan, black and purple. The team’s lucky mascot is Bones and Mojo and their cheerleaders are called Voodoo Dolls. The logo of the teams contains the skull of a human wearing sunglasses and a top hat.
New Orleans Voodoo played its first ever game, as a part of the AFL, in 2004 against ‘Philadelphia Soul’ on 8 th February. The team used to draw huge crowds at their home games, in the first year, because they had won the Southern Division of the AFL. At that point in time, the regular turnout of the team was around 15,240, which was given the fifth spot in the league. In 2005, the team started looking extremely promising but was unable to make it to the playoffs after they lost to the Predators. In spite of that, in the second consecutive year, the team proved itself to be a hit in the New Orleans and was able to, yet again, draw in an average turnout of 15,338. In 2005, the team had to deal with the major natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed their home ground of New Orleans Arena. The operations for the 2006 season were suspended. In 2007, New Orleans Voodoo made a comeback with a new head coach, Neu and was the host of the Arena Bowl XXI as well as XXII. That year the team set the record of selling the highest number of tickets, 13,000. Some of the most notable players of the team are James Lynch, Aaron Bailey, Henry Taylor, James Jordon, P J. Berry, Hutch Gonzales and Skyler Green.
