The Brown Bears is a name shared by all sports teams at Brown University, a university located in Providence, Rhode Island in the United States. The Bears are part of the Ivy League conference. Brown's mascot is Bruno while Seal brown, cardinal red and white are the school colors.

Placed third amongst the Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics’ Association, the Brown Bears basketball team is amongst the thirty seven varsity programs of the Brown University. The team is known to compete against Ivy League teams from universities such as Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale and University of Pennsylvania. The Brown Bears is the official name used by all sports teams that play for Brown University located in Providence. With a huge athletics’ department that has produced some of the best collegiate teams, the university is known to support both men’s and women’s clubs. Some of the sports Brown offers includes football, baseball, basketball, crew, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, skiing, softball, squash, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, water polo, volleyball and wrestling. A few notable players that have emerged from these teams include John Heisman, Bill Almon, Mark Attanasio, Curt Bennett, Don Colo, Steve Jordan and Cory Gibbs, amongst countless others.
With their official mascot, Bruno the live bear, all the Bears teams are known to hail the colors white, red and brown at their matches. Previously mascots namely Burry and Bruin were used, however, it was in 1902 when the bear was introduced in a game against Harvard University. Initially the university brought in real bears, however it was after the sixties games that the idea of using live bears was put aside and instead a person in a costume was introduced.
The forthcoming main event will present the basketball team from the Brown University that has enjoyed a successful career for over a period of 100 years. The collegiate program celebrated their first victory in 1901 when the Bears competed against the Holy Cross winning the game with a score of 29-10. Ever since then,  the Bears achieved wins in 1939 against the Wildcats, in 1955 against Northeastern, in 1971 absent Rhode Island, in 1983 against Dartmouth and then in 1991 against Providence College.
The successful basketball program has also made appearances in the NCAA Playoffs in 1939 competing with Villanova and then in 1986 where they played against Syracuse. The team also bagged their first Ivy League Championship title in the same year.
The current roster of the Bears consist of guards, Blackmon, Hobbie, Madigan, McGonagill, Sharkey, Spieth and Yiljep, center player, Maia and forward players, Halpern, King, Kuakumensah, Martin, Schmidt and Walker. The team is currently coached by Mike Martin who joined Brown University in 2004. He is assisted by T.J. Sorrentine who transferred to Brown from Vermont University in 2005, Boston College’s Dwayne Pina who joined in 2001 and William’s Kevin Snyder who started his tenure in 2009.
