Jason Bonham is an English drummer, famous in heavy metal, hard rock and rock music. He is a musician and songwriter from Dudley in Worcestershire within England and has been active in music since 1970. He plays the drums and percussions. He is best known for being a member of Led Zepellin, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience and of the band, Bonham. Jason Bonham is the son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham. He performed as a member of Led Zeppelin after his father passed away in 1980, such as performing the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at London’s renowned The O2 Arena. He began playing drums at the age of four and played a role in the movie The Song Remains the Same with his father, where he also performed on a smaller drum kit. While seventeen years old, he became a member of Airrace, his first band and then joined Virginia Wolf in 1985, recording two albums with the band and touring the US as a support act for the famous band, Firm.
In 1988, he performed with Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin’s guitarist, during his tour in support of his Outrider album. During the same year, he performed with the three Led Zeppelin members, playing at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert, in New York City. A year later, he performed at the Moscow Music peace Festival where he played with many other famous rock stars. He also founded his first band that year, dubbed Bonham, through whom he released a hit single and music video. In 1990, he performed with John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at his wedding and was the drummer on Paul Rodgers Grammy Award nominated album.
In 1994, Jason Bonham performed with Paul Rodgers and Slash at Woodstock II and launched the band Motherland with singer Marti Frederiksen. In 1995, he appeared on behalf of his father during his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He then founded another group and recorded the album In the Name of My Father – The Zepset, featuring a number of Led Zeppelin songs with money earned from the album going to charity. His next released under this project was When You See the Sun and then toured with Debbie Bonham, his aunt, as well as recorded an album with her.
He played a role in the 2001 hit movie, Rock Star, playing the drummer of the band Steel Dragon. The movie was phenomenal because it featured such musicians as Zakk Wylde, Myles Kennedy, Jeff Pilson, Jeff Scott Soto, Blas Elias, Brian Vander Ark, and Nick Catanese. He also recorded music for the movie’s soundtrack. He was then invited by UFO to drum for them and in 2006, recorded music with the renowned Joe Bonamassa. The same year, he joined many other musicians, starring on the TV show Supergroup, that aired on VH1. He was joined by Ted Nugent, Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard, Scott Ian of Anthrax and Sebastian Bach of Skid Row.
As part of the VH1 show, they founded a band called Damnocracy and then live in a Las Vegas mansion, creating music for twelve days. By that time, he has also drummed for Foreigner from 2004 to 2008. In 2009, he joined the band Black Country Communion and in 2010, founded Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, a tribute to Led Zeppelin that has been touring the world since then. It has gained fame for being one of the most sensational tributes to the rock legend, partly because he has played with actual members of the band. The band performed in 2012 at the Kennedy Center Honors while Led Zeppelin members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were in the audience.
