Dr. William P. Foster, the band’s director from 1946 brought some revolutionary changes in the band and made it what it is today. Dr. Julian E. White , a Music professor, join The Marching 100 in 1971. He was presented with NAACP Achievement Award and Advanced Teacher of the Year Award , awarded by Martin Luther King, Jr .
Bethune-Cookman University’s marching band “The Marching Wildcats” represent the university in Battle of the Bands. The band is made up of 325 members. The members include 14 Karat Gold dancers, Flag Corps and instrumentalists. The band is currently headed by a former famous Wildcat member, Donovan Wells . The dancers usually perform as solo act, the Flag Corps present blended flag techniques with music arranged at the back by instrumentalists. The band has also been given the name of “The Pride”. The band has appeared in various contests and shows, including, “Honda Battle of the Bands”. They have also appeared in a film “Drumline”.
Battle of the Bands has been arranged at “Amway Center” since 2007. It is a sports arena located in Downtown Orlando, Florida. The arena can equip about 16,000 audiences at a time. It has been the home ground for the teams, Orlando Magic, Orlando Solar Beats and Orlando Predators. It will also be the ground for NBA All-Star Game of 2012.
