Anita Baker is an American jazz/R&B singer and songwriter who first came to prominence as the vocalist of Detroit-based R&B band Chapter 8, when the group released its first album in 1979 in which Baker sang the hit duet Ready for Your Love with band member Gerald Lyles. Another single led by Baker alone called I just Wanna Be Your Girl, also enjoyed significant success, and the two songs were spotted on the R&B charts. In 1975, Anita Baker joined Chapter 8 that featured artist Michael J. Powell who would be Baker’s future producer on her solo projects. Other songs that soared to popularity included Same Ole Love, Caught Up in the Rapture and No One in the World, all three if which turned out to be big hits on adult contemporary and R&B charts, and continued to sell more almost eight million copies all over the world.
