The Van Andel Arena is a 10,834-seat multi-purpose arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After a $75 million construction effort, the arena opened on October 8, 1996 and since has attracted more than five million patrons. It is home to the Grand Rapids Griffins ice hockey team, and the Grand Rapids Rampage Arena football team. It was also home court of the now defunct Grand Rapids Hoops basketball team.
As a concert venue Van Andel Arena seats 12,858 for end-stage shows, 13,184 for center-stage shows. The arena floor measures 85 feet-by-220 feet. The arena features 9,886 permanent seats and 44 luxury suites. There are 1,298 retractable seats at Van Andel Arena.
Sunset Strip rockers Mötley Crüe recorded their April 27, 2005, concert at Van Andel and later released the show on the Carnival of Sins.

The arena hosted several events in 2006, including 21 concerts, 28 family shows, 62 sporting events and 10 other types of events, such as college graduations. It was ranked 45th in Pollstar Magazine’s 2006 Top 50 Arena Venues of all sizes. In Billboard/Amusement Business, for Top 10 Arena Venues with 10,001-15,000 seats, the arena ranked 4th in 2006, 6th in 2005, 5th in 2004, 2nd in 2003, 1st in 2002, 2nd in 2001 and 1st in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Besides all these endeavors, it received On-the-Town Magazine Gold Townie Award for Favorite Concert Venue in 2000, 2001 and 2003. It also played host to an amazing 5 million patrons before its fifth year of operation, consistently boosting the local economy.
The arena was the home of the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and the 2001 Arena Bowl Champions, the AFL's Grand Rapids Rampage, and host of Arena Bowl XV in 2001. It also broke the attendance record for NCAA Hockey Regionals with the 2001 NCAA Men's Hockey West Regional Tournament. The facility successfully hosted the 1997, 2004, 2005 and 2007 NCAA Men’s Hockey Regional Tournaments and was awarded the event again in 2009.
The arena celebrated its 10th Anniversary in the fall of 2006 with “10 Big Events” – Eric Clapton, Professional Bull Riders, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Community Open House, Celebration on Ice Hosted by Kristi Yamaguchi, Detroit Pistons vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Exhibition Game, Def Leppard & Journey, Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Rochester Americans, Michigan State University vs. Grand Valley State University Men’s Basketball Exhibition Game and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The facility was named Best Concert Venue by Grand Rapids Magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In April 2007, the arena celebrated the grand opening of Huntington Club, the brand-new lounge located inside the arena. Operated by SAVOR Grand Rapids, Catering by SMG, Huntington Club offers a full menu and premium brand liquors, large TVs and specialized décor, including a 12-foot tall mural featuring the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Grand Rapids Rampage. Huntington Club is open to Van Andel Arena premium seat and suite holders on event nights only.
