Talladega Super speedway is the biggest, fastest, most competitive motor sports facility in the world. Records for both speed and competition have been established at Talladega. This wonderful motor sports complex located north of Talladega, Alabama.
Talladega Super speedway successfully manages a vast space for the motor race lovers. It can accommodate more than 143,000-seated guests and thousands more in the 212-acre infield. The track offers van tours to visitors daily during working hours except on weeks around events. Adjacent to the track is the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, which is also open daily.
Talladega Super speedway was originally built in 1969. Its property now covers approximately 3,000 acres including the track site and parking areas. The infield area is 212 acres.
It was constructed in the 1960s in place of abandoned airport runways by International Speedway Corporation, Daytona International Speedway and several other racetracks.
In a motor racing track, the start/finish line is normally placed across from the center of pit road. However, at Talladega, the start/finish line is placed after the pit exit; the unusual placement has affected the outcome of several races.The track is adjacent to and visible from Interstate 20.
At Tallagada, the average Speeds were well in excess of 200 mph or 320 km/h. Talladega Super speedway has the honour of maintaining the record for the fastest recorded time in a stock car. Bill Elliott successfully sets this record at the speed of 212.809 mph on April 30, 1987. Elliott circled the 2.66-mile trioval in 44.998 seconds. Early in that race, Bobby Allison's Buick flew into the catch fence, injuring fans.This tragic incident led NASCAR to impose rule changes to slow the cars.
Talladega has the honor of hosting two Nextel Cup races and one Busch Series race annually. The length of both of the Nextel Cup races are 500.08 miles (188 laps) (800 km). The purchases of naming rights are considered very important in the names of the races. The spring Nextel Cup race since spring 2002 (2002) being referred to as the Aaron's 499 after the Atlanta-based rent-to-own chain. On July 26, 2005 it was announced that the Craftsman Truck Series would begin holding a race at Talladega starting in 2006.
The Winston 500 was known as one of the sport's four legs of the traditional "Winston Million", with the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, and the Southern 500 being the other three. With the demise of the Southern 500 by a lawsuit, there are only three majors remaining.

Talladega Super speedway presents five separate racing shows each year as host to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). The facility is used for various automotive testing purposes as well as by driving schools. Driving schools that regularly visit Talladega Superspeedway include Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure, Richard Petty Driving Experience and Racing Experience, Inc.· The facility is occasionally used by film production companies for television commercial and motion picture shoots.
In Summer 2006, Talladega Super speedway was repaved.
