Stephen Sondheim Theatre Formerly Henry Miller Theatre Tickets Information

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre, formerly the Henry Miller Theatre, is owned by the Roundabout Theatre Company and is one of the oldest still running venues in this city. It opened its doors way back in 1918 and has since then established itself as a host to only the best in music and the best in theatre. It was formerly known as the Henry Miller Theatre until 2010; as of 2010, it is now known as the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The location of this venue is in itself prime; it is situated in the Theatre District in Manhattan, between Broadway and the 6 th Avenue. With such a prime location, it is hardly surprising that the biggest American music stars regularly perform here, live.

The first production shown at this theatre was the play, The Fountain of Youth. It was also the very first air conditioned theatre to have been established in Manhattan, yet another sign of the prestige of this venue. One of its first big shows was The Vortex by Noel Coward, starting off a golden era in the life of this sensational theatre. It was first managed by Henry Miller, one of the owners, but after his death, it was managed by Gilbert Miller, his son. From the thirties onwards to the sixties, this venue was home to the best in theatrical productions and saw performances by the best actors and actresses of the time; Lillian Gish, Leslie Howard, Helen Hayes, Douglas Fairbanks and Ruth Chatterton to have been just a few to have performed on this theatre’s stage.

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre, formerly the Henry Miller Theatre, was rebuilt in 2004 and with the Bank of America Tower being built on top of it, the theatre itself was built underground. This makes this venue one of the only two underground theatres on Broadway, something that promises a truly unique experience. Over the course of its life, The Stephen Sondheim Theatre, formerly the Henry Miller Theatre, has played host to many theatrical productions. This includes La La Lucille, Journey's End, The Country Wife, Our Town, Born Yesterday, The Trip to Bountiful, Witness for the Prosecution, Enter Laughing, The Subject Was Roses, The Ritz, Cabaret, Urinetown, Bye Bye Birdie, All About Me and The Pee-Wee Herman Show. Today, this theatre is home to the spectacular production, Anything Goes, easily seen live through The Stephen Sondheim Theatre Formerly Henry Miller Theatre Tickets.
