The cultural and creative venue and institution namely, Strathmore situated in North Bethesda, Maryland, USA, was founded in 1981 and consists of two venues: the Mansion and the Music Center.
The Strathmore arts complex is linked to the Grosvenor-Strathmore Washington Metro station by means of a lofty pedestrian pathway, the Carlton R. Located on eleven acres surrounding the colonial revival mansion built in 1899 for the Oyster family, and sold to Charles Corby in 1908, The Mansion Strathmore lodges small-sized concerts, art expositions, the Strathmore Tea Room, and the Shop at Strathmore. The original Strathmore venue has remained so for more or less 25 years, presenting a 100-seat acoustically splendid Dorothy M. and Maurice C. Shapiro Music room. This room hosts the Music in the Mansion series, featuring performances of chamber music, vocal and instrumental recitals, jazz and folk music. Music enthusiasts will be enchanted by Strathmore’s 1850 Broad wood piano, which has been restored in 1994. Each summer the music concert is organized onto the green with free outdoor concerts, charming the audiences and in addition to this, it also brings in the Backyard Theater for Children every Thursday morning.
