General Motors Place is nicknamed as The Garage and GM Place. It has been sponsored by General Motors Canada. General Motors Place is an indoor arena located at 800 Griffiths Way in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The General Motors Place was completely constructed in 1995, and it cost $160 million [Canadian Dollars] in private financing. General Motors Place is the home of the Vancouver Canucks that play in the NHL. It used to be home to the Vancouver Grizzlies of the NBA, as well as the Vancouver Ravens of the NLL. The Vancouver Grizzlies shifted to Memphis. General Motors Place arena has a seating capacity of 18,630 for ice hockey, and it can accommodate 19,193 viewers for basketball. The size of this screen along with the 10 mm pixel spacing provides an image that is the best among the NHL arenas. The scoreboard as a whole weighs 49,000 lbs, which is 2% less than the previous one. The usual 3-week assembly period was fulfilled in a week’s time. Due to this, there were some minor technical difficulties when the first game was played. GM Place plans to host ice hockey events in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. These will be the first Olympic games to feature at this venue. The decision to use the GM Place as a venue for Olympic games was taken so that a maximize number of people would be attracted. This would help to raise a lot of revenue

The Spice Girls will perform at the GM Place for the opening of their reunion tour [December 2, 2007]. Billy Joel has already performed at the GM Place on October 30th, 2007. Colorado has had a decent amount of success in recent times. They recently had a four-game winning streak. However, they were thwarted by a 4-3 shootout loss to Edmonton. The Avalanche presently sits at ninth place in the Western Conference. They are 5 points behind Calgary. The Flames are in Chicago today.
