\nThe venue was designed to be an upscale movie theatre that procreated a chain of movie theatres. In 1929, the Fox Theatre merged with the West Coast Theatre Chains and the chain began to spawn the lengths and breadths of the United States. Each theatre carried its signature architecture, inspiration, theme and presence and relived Hollywood every minute.

\nDesigned by S. Charles Lee the 1500 seat Fox Theater streamlined with implacable style and beauty of the most authentic Mediterranean Village. Carrying influences of set designs, the Fox Theatre sheered as a masterpiece of the gilded age. Structured with steel frames and concrete the theater was structured as a hollow that could be used to house remolded and remodeled interiors. The theatre was open to public on 1930’s Christmas showcasing the movie Just Imagine . It also was the first theatre to bring the first talkie motion picture to public. Thoroughly enjoyed as an experience, it underwent its first interior revamp in 1953. The Fox Theatre profiled glitz and glamour of the Hollywood in the 50’s. Art Deco, metallic and neon inspirations from colors to motifs were reflected in every single bit of the theatre. Theatergoing was entertainment in every dimension.

\nThe Fox Theatre lived day and night in the hustle bustle and sound of festivity. In 1977 it was closed for public for more than three decade. The Fox Theatre Foundation stepped in to save, restore and revive The Fox Theatre. The foundation made relentless donations and efforts and has successfully recreated the Fox Theatre keeping in line with its Sakura signature. It has been resurrected as the cultural hub of Bakersfield downtown. Withstanding the Art Deco of the 50’s revamp and addition of Spanish Colonial interiors, the theater has been glorified to the magnificence of the yesteryears.
