Electric Factory Tickets Information
Electric Factory
The Electric Factory is a well-known venue for concerts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The first "Electric Factory" venue was actually a converted tire warehouse that was located at 22nd and Arch Streets. This first Electric Factory had opened in 1968, and it closed in 1973. The first performers at this venue were the Chambers brothers, on February 2, 1968.
The "Electric Factory" was resurrected around the latter 1994 or early 1995. It presently stands at 421 N. 7th Street between Willow and Spring Garden Streets. This place is more symbolic because it is an actual converted electric factory.
The standing-room-only capacity in the Electric Factory is approximately 2500 to 3000 people. This includes the second-floor area. Since this portion of the area overlooks the stage from the left, people up here have a good view of the backstage.
The Electric Factory is known to host major musical acts on a regular basis. These musical acts usually consist of heavy metal, rock and grunge genres. The Electric Factory has a rich history just like rock and roll does.
The Electric Factory is described as a legend in live music that has survived for more than 30 years. It has succeeded in taking its system to the next level with a DriveRack® 4800 System Processor from dbx® Professional Products. This equipment is manufactured by a company based in Salt Lake City, which is a division of Harman International.
The DriveRack 4800 has provided Philadelphia’s Electric Factory with a great deal of flexibility, intuitive control and sonic excellence for every performance. The unit has many EQ effects, bandpass, delay, classic dbx compression and limiting, and crossover filters. It also has a 96 kHz processing engine and standard digital I/O. These features further enhance frequency response and help to reduce latency.
The manner in which the installation of the dbx DriveRack 4800 at Electric Factory came about is said to be a classic story. The owner of Pro Audio Frank Silva, recalls, “The sound system had one more manufacturer’s processor for the last three years, but it was temperamental and difficult to manage. One evening, I got an urgent call in which I was told that the controller had finally failed for good and we were asked to help them. They needed it replaced by the following night. As it happens, my dbx rep had a DriveRack 4800 on hand which he had been thinking about demoing for me. I had never put one to use before. I downloaded the software and began to install the unit. Neither they nor I had ever used a DriveRack 4800 before that moment and I guess you could say we both learned about it that night. The unit sounded so good — it took their system so many light years beyond what it had been capable of before — that they bought it on the spot.”
Silva spots particular chronic issues they faced through the years. These included reverberations and reflections that went on throughout the cavernous 3,000-seat space. “I was amazed at the difference that one unit could make in a system,” he says.
The dbx DriveRack 4800 remains the sole controller for the entire system, handling EQ, delay and other processing functions. Silva further says that he’ll also use the DriveRack 4800 on other projects. “Besides sounding as good as it does, the 4800 programs like a dream — intuitive and easy. I had never used it before and I had it up and running in no time. Great design, great performance.”
