The Dodge Arena is a 6,800-seat multi-purpose complex in Hidalgo, Texas that is always busy in entertaining thousands of guests. The stadium has 6,800 seats that will configure up to 5,500-seats for ice hockey, football and soccer and a center stage concert capacity of 6,800-seats. It is home to the Rio Grande Valley Dorados arena football team and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees ice hockey team.
Dodge Arena is located at 2600 North 10th Street (Hwy 336) in Hidalgo, Texas. This outstanding arena is in the ownership of the City of Hidalgo-Texas Municipal Facilities Corporation. The arena features 25 suites and 500 club seats. The property also includes 2,200 surface parking spaces on site, as well as a 2,000-square-foot lounge with access from outside of the arena, as well as 1,000-square foot bar and 300-square-foot pro shop. DaimlerChrysler paid the City of Hidalgo for naming rights to the arena.
It cost $20million to build this magnificent Dodge Arena. The opening of the Arena was just superb. It was opened on October 23, 2003 with the outstanding performances of Alan Jackson and Joe Nichols. The event was a great success and it sold out in just 3 1/2 hours. The Alan Jackson concert set a tour record for merchandise sales at the Dodge Arena.Moreover, The Arena proved very lucky for both Alan Jackson and Joe Nichols as short after their performance at this grand stadium, Alan won several CMA Awards including Entertainer of the Year and Joe Nichols won the "Horizon Award".
The second week of opening featured two Luis Miguel concerts with a combined gross of $803,000. Clear Channel Entertainment successfully promoted this event. Sesame Street sold out five shows in mid-November.All the shows were superhit. In fact, a fifth show was added to accommodate the demand.
The first World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) show was on November 17, 2003 and sold out at a capacity of 6,950. The arena hosted the IFC (International Fighting Championships) on December 6, 2003 which was the first ever caged fighting event sanctioned in the State of Texas.
The arena's first boxing event was on Friday, January 16, 2004 that was promoted and attended by Oscar de la Hoya's "Golden Boy Promotions." The event was broadcast as part of the "Solo Boxeo" series on "Telefutura" which is carried in 42 U.S. markets and 70 foreign countries. Garnering a 5.3 rating, it was fourth highest rated "Solo Boxeo" event in the history of the series.
The first Globetrotters event was sold out on January 29, 2004. The Arena also sold out three out of four Monster Jam Shows from January 30, 2004 through February 1, 2004. Furthermore, the second WWE show was placed on sale On February 28, 2004 and promptly sold out in 3 1/2 hours.
Kelly Clarkson,one of the many showstoppers, was greatly successful in raising money for the Ronald McDonald House Charity performed while performing at Dodge Arena.
