Boardwalk Hall is also known as the Historic Atlantic City Convention Hall. Before the opening of the Atlantic City Convention Center in 1997, This arena has successfully served as the primary convention center in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall offers a wide range of concerts, operas, shows and plays. Also, as a member of the Atlantic City Community, they offer other activities and programs that cultivate future artists and encourages individuals, schools, local businesses and corporations to become involved in and appreciate the rich cultural world of the Arts.
The arena has the seating capacity of 10,500 people for hockey. More than 17,000 people can be accommodated for concerts. Boardwalk Hall successfully hosted the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies ice hockey team from 2001-2005.
The arena has the honor of hosting some of the great events of great importance both national and international level. Miss America Pageant has regularly been held at this arena until 2004. The WWF's WrestleMania IV and V in 1988 and 1989 were held at Boardwalk Hall. The Atlantic 10 Conference will hold its 2007 and 2008 men’s basketball championships at this splendid arena.
A $90 million renovation of the historic Boardwalk Convention Hall – renamed "Boardwalk Hall" – has transformed it into a 12,000-seat special events arena.The restoration was greatly appreciated and it won many awards. The renovated Boardwalk hall was rewarded with the 2003 National Preservation Award, Building Magazine's 2002 Modernization Award, and Billboard magazine recognized Boardwalk Hall as the top grossing mid-sized arena in the United States in 2003 and 2004.
The arena hosted the important 1964 Democratic National Convention. In this convention, Lyndon Baines Johnson was nominated President only months following the assassination of his predecessor, John F. Kennedy. The following week, It was performing place for one of The Beatles largest concerts in their first American tour. Thousands of screaming rock fans packed the Hall.
In 1989, The classic and widely boot-legged Rolling Stones concert was held at this arena. The concert was was shown on Pay-per-view television and it was greatly appreciated by fans. The former Boardwalk Bowl college football game has also been using this wonderful venue in the 1960s and 70s.
It was also the venue of the game between the United States and Spain in Fed Cup in 1996. In this game United states beat Spain 5-0.
Th Boardwalk Hall has also the distinction of becoming the home of the world's largest pipe organ, the Main Auditorium Organ, as listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. However, It was not take great care of. The condition of the organ was deteriorated due to a lack of stewardship. It is no longer fully functional. A restoration program is currently underway.
