Blue Cross Arena Tickets Information
Blue Cross Arena
Home to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, the Rochester Razorsharks of the Premier Basketball League, and the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League, Blue Cross Arena at One War Memorial is a multi-purpose indoor arena located right in the middle of downtown, Rochester, New York.
Originally named the "Rochester Community War Memorial”, it was constructed in the style that was popular in the 1950s. The building included a full stage on the south end and an exhibition hall located on the basement level. A public trade show was the first event held in the exhibition hall of the arena and featured such famous Rochester-based companies as Eastman Kodak, Haloid (now Xerox), Bausch & Lomb, General Railway Signal and Rochester Products. It also hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 1956 and the 14th WWF, In Your House pay-per-view in 1997. After a 2 year reconstruction and expansion the arena was reopened and renamed the "Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial" in 1998 -- later shortened to simply the "Blue Cross Arena."
The $41 million renovation/expansion included luxury suites, increased concession stands, additional restrooms, fully functional banquet/meeting rooms, and increased capacity of 12,428 seating; for hockey and lacrosse, its seating capacity is 11,215.
Many National Hockey League exhibition games have been held at the arena. In November 12, 2003, the Buffalo Sabres and the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils played the first NHL regular season game in the venue, and then a second regular season game was held on October 26, 2005. On July 29th 2007 the CIFL Championship was also held here. Atlantic Hockey, an NCAA Division I Men's ice hockey league, plans to hold its league tournaments in 2007, 2008, and 2009 at the Blue Cross Arena.
The Arena also plays host to numerous other sports such as High school basketball, college basketball games and high school cheerleading annual championships giving you the chance to catch some of the area’s most talented stars.
Besides sports events, this facility also hosts numerous entertainment events and performances on tour including live concerts, ice shows and the circus.
Tucked away in the back of the arena, there is a monument called “the eternal flame” that serves as a reminder to those who have lost their lives fighting for America.
