Biltmore House is a breathtakingly beautiful, large European style mansion built by George Washington Vanderbilt II near Ashville, North Carolina. It took almost 6 years for its complete construction from 1889 to 1995. It is said to be the largest house in America. In 2007, the American Institute for Architects placed it on the eighth position among the “list for America’s favorite Architecture”. It is still owned by the heirs of Vanderbilt. They opened the house for the public in March, 1930 due to the financial constraints and general economic depression in the country. The family continued to live there till 1956 when it was completely opened for the public in the form of a house museum.

Baltimore House is located in Ashville in the western North Carolina. Ashville has appeared in various rankings for number of features. The Rolling Stones Magazine named it as “The new Freak capital of the US”. It was termed as “The happiest city for women” by Self Magazine . George Washington Vanderbilt visited Ashville in 1880’s several times along with his mother. He liked the place so much that he decided to construct his summer house there just as his other siblings have built their summer houses in different places according to their likings. He appointed Richard Morris Hunt to build a house inspired by the European estate houses in chateauesque style. The estate had its own village and church.

First of all it is very huge and it is nearly impossible to see the complete house in just a day. The gardens are beautifully manicured and have different styles of landscapes. There is natural woodland in the estate as well as agricultural lands which are linked through a rustic 3 miles road. It has indoor swimming pool, library, bowling alley and an exercise room.

Baltimore House has also held concerts on different occasions. The 2011 Baltimore Concert series is scheduled from the end of July and will continue till October.
