The Wizard Of Oz Tickets Information

Wizard of Oz , the musical is an Andrew Webber Lloyd presentation with the book by Time Rice. It is hugely bent on the 1939s Hollywood movie and takes us into the same sweet nostalgia with amazing tunes from it. The styling and inspiration of the sets and props comes from the artwork of the book itself. Some parts were also adapted from the popular musical of that time; The Wiz. These music and lyrics by Harold Arlen Lyrics E.Y. Harburg served as the basis.

The screenplay of Noel Langley along with Florence Ryerson and Edgar Allan Woolf has offered pointers for the development of this stage act. In 1987, it made its debut at West-End London by Royal Shakespeare Company. Its blinding coup compelled the producers to take it internationally, ultimately turning it into one of most liked children shows ever. The show was soon one of the biggest Broadway productions for children.

The story of Wizard of Oz is very much like the movie itself where Dorothy, a little girl lives in the farm. She has a pet dog named Toto and it is just another day for them when suddenly a tornado hits the Kansas. The two of them are literally blown away with the storm and end up in the Munchkin Country in the Land of Oz. There she meets the Good Witch from the North who tells her that the ruler of the Munchkins; Wicked Witch from the West has died. The Witch asks Dorothy to take Wicked Witch’s silver shoes to the Wizard of Oz who lives in the Emerald City.

She has to go there and ask for his help in order to return to her farm. This serves as the beginning of Dorothy’s adventure in the land of Munchkins where she unravels a strangely delightful world of magic. It is an exciting journey with new surprises around every corner. During her quest for the wizard she makes a lot of friends like Tin Soldier, Wolfman, Cowardly Lion, winged monkeys and Glinda.

In the original musical Imelda Staunton played Dorothy while Bille Brown appeared as Miss Gulch. Joyce Grant was Glinda and Trevor Peacock was Zeke, the cowardly Lion. The current production features the cast of Danielle Hope as Dorothy, Michael Crawford as The Wizard of Oz, Edward Baker-Duly as Tin Woodsman, David Ganly as Cowardly Lion, Paul Keating as Scarecrow, Hannah Waddingham as Wicked Witch of the West and Emily Tierney as Glinda the Good Witch. The musical is directed by Jeremy Sams while Arlene Phillips is responsible for the choreography and Robert Jones’ sets.

The show has toured internationally over the past with various productions offering their own take on the story. Some of the most memorable performances of the past include 1987 West End, 1989 The Wizard of Oz Live! Arena Show, 1993 U.S. Tour, 1995 The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True, 1997 Madison Square Garden, 1998 MSG Tour, 2008 U.S. Tour and 2009 London.
