For those entertainment seekers who want to experience the story as it happens right in front of their eyes, Broadway has been a go-to spot for those kinds of theater goers for many decades. Years in and years out, Broadway Theatres have been catering the needs of the theatre goers with top of the line productions of some of the most popular and successful musicals, operas and plays. Broadway has been birth place for many renowned and internationally famed musicals and plays. Moreover, after enjoying success at Broadway those plays or musicals go on to enjoy massive fan following in all parts of the world.

Where Broadway is an ideal place for revival productions, it’s a perfect platform for the launch of the new plays and musicals as well. And keeping that in mind, playwright Lydia R. Diamond’s play the Stick Fly opened on Broadway at the Cort Theatre on November 18, 2011. Northwestern University graduate Lydia R. Diamond has previously flaunted her talents of a great playwright after penning the hit plays like Here I Am … See Can You Handle It, The Gift Horse, Voyeurs, Stage Black, The Bluest Eye and The Inside. This time for her play Stick fly, Diamond joins forces with the musician Alicia Keys, Broadway producer Nelle Nugent and film maker Rueben Cannon; who are the producers of the play. The play stars Mekhi Phifer, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Condola Rashad, Dule Hill and Rosie Benton; while the whole production is directed by Kenny Leon. Kenny Leon is few of those African American theatre directors who have made quite some name for themselves with their extraordinary work in terms of directing theatrical productions. Leon grabbed some noticeable attention back in 1988 as an artistic director for the Alliance Theatre Company and since then he has work on several notable productions including Gem of the Ocean, Even Tongue Confess, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, A Raisin in the Sun and The Mountaintop.
