Menopause The Musical Tickets Information
Menopause The Musical
Menopause The Musical was launched on March 28, 2001 in Orlando, Florida. The location was a 76-seat theatre that used to be a perfume shop. The musical features four women busy shopping for lingerie at a Bloomingdale's sale. They sing 25 songs about loss of memory, nocturnal sweats, chocolate cravings, hot flashes, and sexual predicaments. This is all quite in sync with the title, and the lyrics parody popular music that era, which was the baby boomer era.
Several local references are made in the show, and they are tailored to the location of the musical. One example of this is the 'Dubbo Housewife' in Australia, which is a 'Waikato housewife' in New Zealand. Also, America's Bloomingdale's becomes Smith & Caugheys in New Zealand.
Menopause The Musical® has catered to many audiences across the country. It has been performed before audiences in 100 cities. These would include: Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Danville (KY), Detroit, Indianapolis, New Haven (CT), New York, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Seattle, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Portland, Syracuse (NY), Tampa, Upland (CA), and West Palm Beach. It has also been performed in 10 countries that include Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Israel, Philippines, United Kingdom, South Africa, and South Korea. Every week, almost 35,000 women of different ages feel lighter with this show’s light-hearted view of menopause. Approximately, 9 million women in 11 countries have watched this performance since it first opened in Orlando, Fla., in 2001.
Menopause The Musical® is a great form of encouragement for discussing issues of aging and women’s health. This show has been recognized for its great potential to discuss women’s health issues with a wide audience. Jeanie Linders is a known figure for taking the show on the road as Menopause The Musical Out Loud™: Breaking The Silence Of Ovarian Cancer. This 2005-06 tour managed to pull in $500,000 that will be used for ovarian cancer research and awareness.
Jeanie Linders is a writer/producer who is now best-known writing and producing Menopause The Musical®. She is a spokesperson for a generation of women who face more than just hot flashes. Her career has lasted three decades, but what she focuses on is helping women over 40 to connect and support one another.
Adrienne Onofri in CurtainUp reviews Linders’ show saying that the audience responded with "howls of laughter" but that production "is really a sketch stretched out to an hour-and-a-half production."
The next stop for the "Menopause the Musical" includes what it is currently accomplishing. It has, for weeks, attracted group after group of middle-aged women. They have assembled for a rare night out to laugh about a part of life that they accept. The main point to be noted here is: why be left alone to suffer when you can enjoy it with so many of your own. "It's something every woman can relate to," says one viewer of the show who is also part of a club a few women formed, the "38 Club". "You have to go through it. You might as well find some humor in it."
