X Games, a journey that began in 1995, is today known as the world’s action sport’s “signature brand”. This annual sports event is held by ESPN, the US sports broadcaster. The summer games of the year are usually held during August while the winter games are played in January or February. As described by ESPN, X Games are: “the greatest competition of sport’s athletes from all over the world, competing on annual bases”. The day and night events include Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowmobiling in winter and Moto X, Skateboarding, Rally Car Racing and BMX Freestyle in summer.
The very first X Games Winter events were televised in 198 countries in 1997 and this four day event was attended by about 38,000 spectators. Although the next year the attendance dropped to 25,000, but only 2 years later it hit a record of 83,500 people attending the Winter X games’ East Coast Debut. Since then, the X Games have continuously grown in popularity.

X Games history begins with “Extreme Games” held at Rhode Islands, Mount Snow and Vermont in 1995. After receiving a very enthusiastic response from the spectators, athletes, sponsors and organizers, ESPN decided to make X Games an annual sporting event.
In 1996, January, the name “Extreme Games” was changed into the present title “X Games”. Round about 200,000 spectators came out for X Games in late June. The event was held in Newport. The first ever Winter X Games came along with events; Snowboarding, Snow Mountain Bike racing, Ice climbing, and Super-Modified Shovel Racing. 1997’s January X Games was telecasted in over 198 countries and in 21 different languages. For the very first time it was broadcasted by the ABC Sports. Approximately 38,000 spectators made it to San Diego, California where the four day event was held. In June X Games a record crowd of 221,000 fans came to watch X Games III summer event. The 10-story man made jump amused the spectators a great deal.
1998 X Games IV was held in San Diego, California again, and attracted an attendance of about 233,000 people. In January session there was an audience of about 25,000 present to enjoy the four day event. First ever X Game International qualifying event was held in April. In 2000 summer X Games, Bucky Lasek made a record in the history of X Games by scoring 98.50 in Skateboard Vert.
In 2011, Mike Metzger made history by the first ever X Games back flip of 80 foot gap and pulled of two continuous flips for the run for Victory. In 2007 Ricky Carmichael won the first MotoX Racing Circuit. In 2008 Tarah Gieger won gold medal in the first ever women race. In 2009, Ashley Fiolek won women’s Moto X Super X and became the X Games’ first ever deaf medalist. 2010 X Games were held at Staples Center, Los Angeles. In the summer events Cam Sinclair made the greatest comeback ever in the history of action sports games. He had been hit by a seven days coma after Red Bulls X Fighters event in the past year.
X Games is the leading winter action sporting event in the entire world. New sporting events and competitions are introduced every now and then.
