The Washington Redskins-a professional American football team located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The team plays at FedExField, located in Landover, Maryland in Prince George's County, Maryland, whereas it is headquartered and practices at Redskin Park in Ashburn, Virginia, a community in Loudoun County, Virginia near Dulles International Airport. At present they are members of the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL).

Forbes Magazine complimented the team by stating,The Redskins are the most valuable sports team in the world, valued at approximately $1.3 billion. They are also the wealthiest team in the NFL, generating almost $300 million in revenue per-year. They also rank #1 in average attendance per game in the NFL.

Wow! What a team? Initially they were known as the Boston Braves, the club united the NFL as a 1932 expansion team situated in Boston, Massachusetts. Just a year later, the team changed its name to Boston Redskins after moving from Braves Field home of the baseball team of the same name and to Fenway Park. The name "Redskins" added to team to honor their head coach William (Lone Star) Dietz he was of part-Sioux decent. In 1937 the team moved to Washington, D.C. The Redskins won two NFL Championships as well as three of five Super Bowls. It was reported that after the end of the 2005 season, the Redskins were 20 million dollars over the salary cap. Moreover, due to the NFL and NFL Players' Union agreement, the salary cap was raised to 102 million dollars. Hmmm! So the hard work team did, payoff well. Due to the huge revenue generated plus the subtraction of some players like 3-time Pro Bowl Linebacker LaVar Arrington, and also safeties Ryan Clark and Matt Bowen, the team was able to hire high profile free agents such as, Antwaan Randle El (formerly with the Pittsburgh Steelers), Brandon Lloyd (formerly with the San Francisco 49ers), Adam Archuleta (formerly with the St. Louis Rams), and Christian Fauria (formerly with the New England Patriots). And due to these solid valuable and peerless additions, the Redskins are now standing among the teams measured as the best in the NFC.

In the year of 2006 NFL Draft, the club did not go for a first round pick as a result of 2005 trade used to acquire Jason Campbell with the 25th overall pick. Though the team later traded up in the second round to draft linebacker Rocky McIntosh out of the University of Miami, he seems to be the replacement for Arrington and would most possibly become a starter instantly. Then the Redskins used their next pick on Minnesota DT Anthony Montgomery. The rest of the picks counted Northern Colorado Safety Reed Doughty, Georgia DT Kedric Golston, Arizona Guard Kili Lefotu, and Tennessee LB Kevin Simon. Now talking about the logo and team's name there is a lot of controversy about it. Most of the American natives activist groups find them considerably unpleasant and discourteous.

If we have a look at team's history, the logo has based on a profile of a stereotypical Native American. In the late 1960s the team temporarily used a white and gold arrow for its logo, plus a maroon-colored "R" inside a white circle with long feathers from 1970 to 1971. This design was enthuse by Vince Lombardi. The team pioneered a modernized version of the Native American profile logo in 1972 which is even used today. The colors of The Washington Redskins' are primarily burgundy and gold. They are one of the three NFL teams that principally wear their white jerseys at home (the other two are the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins). The team was cultured to wear white jerseys at home by Joe Gibbs particularly in 1981 when he took over as coach. Team's burgundy jersey is especially used along with white pants when the opponent team decides to wear white at home and this happens mainly against the Dallas Cowboys. In addition the other combinations were burgundy jerseys and gold pants that were used mostly in the past and for one year in the 2002 season when the Redskins celebrated their 70th anniversary and wore it at home. The present design of the uniform was initiated by Coach Jack Pardee in 1979. The Redskins were dressed in gold pants with both the burgundy and white jerseys since 1979 to 1978. Then in 1978, Gold face masks were established and still remain to this day.
