Utah Jazz Tickets Information
Utah Jazz
Utah Jazz, a Pro-Basket ball team, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, was originated in 1974 with the name of New Orleans’s Jazz. After they lost in five consecutive seasons of NBA and due to Sam Battistone's discontent in New Orleans the teams moved to Salt Lake City in Utah in 1979.
The team got its name Jazz due to the Jazz culture present in New Orleans but as they moved to Utah, it was supposed that the teams name would change as well to “Saints” as the Saints founded the state of Utah. But the teams name remained unchanged. Jazz head coach Frank Layden stated that nobody thought the team was going to last long enough to bother with a name change. Los Angeles Lakers Adrian Dantley was added to the Jazz’s roster before the season 1979-80 season.
Utah Jazz was the most successful team in 1980’s and 1990’s. John Stockton from Gonzaga University was drafted in 1984 and Karl Malone from Louisiana Tech was added up in Jazz’s roster 1985. Jazz’s Stockton and Malone became superstars soon and the due was considered unstoppable due to their running picks and roll plays. Utah jazz didn’t do very well in 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. But few years later Jazz’s reputation bar started to rise.
Jazz’s playoff losses continued as their 90’s era initiated. They lost to Phoenix Suns in first round in 1990; their loss was followed by another loss in the second of 1991 season against Portland trail Blazers. Jeff Malone was added to the roster in 1990-91 and Darrell Griffith was waived in the 1991-92 season. Jazz also changed their home in 1991 as they moved from Old Salt Palace to Delta Centre. 1992 came out to be a bit better for Jazz as they finally made it to Conference Finals. Jazz’s took another playoff defeat in 1993 as they lost to Seattle Supersonics in the first round. In 1993-94 season Jeff Hornacek was added to the roster in as the team traded Jeff Malone.
Though, Utah Jazz, during their 1999-2000 season won Midwest division but again they lost during the second round of the offseason, to Portland Trail Blazers. Hornacek retired during the offseason and Jazz’s roster welcomed a new entry to the roster as they traded Howard Eisley for Donyell Marshall. In their following season even though Jazz’s went 53–29, still they lost in playoffs to Dallas Mavericks.
Unlike other seasons, 2006-07 season started of really well for Utah Jazz, hitting up the league and franchise best record of 12–1 even though Kirilenko missed 5 games due to his injury. As a reserve Carlos Boozer was selected for his first ever All-Star game but he missed the game to his injury.
Huge amount of improvement was also seen in Williams as he finished second in the league in assists per game, with 9.3. Jazz’s roster for 2006-07 season was a good one hence on 25 March they grabbed their first playoff berth in 4 seasons and three days later on 28 March won division title. Their last few weeks of the season weren’t as good as their first weeks they finished with 51–31 record, still it is their best record in 6 seasons.
