The Tour Championship Tickets Information
The Tour Championship
The Tour Championship is the final event of golf's PGA Tour season. From 2007 onwards, the tour championship will be the final event of the FedEx Cup, which is the competition for the first official championship trophy for the PGA Tour season. Previously in 1997, the event had alternated between the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas and East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2004, however, East Lake has been the event's permanent home.
Up until 2006, the top 30 money winners on the PGA Tour are the ones who qualify for the event. In 2006, the event took place in early November, one week after a similar event in Europe called the Volvo Masters. In this way, players who are members of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour can participate.
There are a number of additional events between The Tour Championship and Christmas which are also recognized by the PGA Tour. However, any prize money won in these events is unofficial. Also, since the tournament's field is not as large as other golf tournaments, there is no 36-hole cut. Because of this, all participants are credited with making the cut and receive some prize money.
In 2007, The Tour Championship's date was moved up from November in 2006 to mid-September, where it will end a four-tournament titled "Chase for the FedEx Cup". As in past years, 30 players will qualify for the event, but the basis for qualification will be the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated rather than prize money. Despite the tournament's status as the final FedEx Cup event, the trophy will not necessarily be awarded to the winner of The Tour Championship event.
Instead the cup will go to the player The FedEx Cup will instead be awarded to the player who has accumulated the most FedEx Cup points in the entire season. After the Tour Championship event, there will be a series of seven more events in the Tour's inaugural Fall Series, also called the "Quest for the Card", to determine the rest of the Top 125 players who will participate in the FedEx Cup in 2008.
