Supercross Tickets Information

Supercross
"Supercross" is the name given to the sport in which high performance motorcycles race on off-road dirt tracks passing through steep jumps and different levels of obstacles. For the most part, these events are performed in professional baseball and football stadiums.

Stadiums that have the coverage area for such gigantic events. The name "Supercross" originates from "Motocross". Though there is a similarity in pronunciation of the words, the sports are completely miles apart in terms of the skill set required and the risks associated with playing the sport.

Typically, the television viewers have fallen in love with shows involving risk, human trials and even outrageous scenes of disasters. Television serials with this involvement of surpassing human endeavors and raging momentum have been show cases for sponsorships and endorsements.

And because of the fact that Supercross contains all the aspects of adrenaline rush, fast paced movements and rigorous vintage points, the sports receives a lion's share of endorsements and coverage. Primarily, the term "Supercross" was coined as the event name for the first organized Motocross race that was successfully held inside a stadium in the United States.

And the name has become a part of the sporting event. Avid fans and promoters of the event labeled the event as the "Super Bowl of Motocross". People who love motor racing and the stunts associated with two wheelers were completely jubilating over an event that would have the best of the best compete against one another.

The first event was won by Marty Tripes at the young age of 16 in downtown Los Angeles. The LA coliseum was jam packed. The event exceeded customer expectations. It was the first time in the history of motorcycling that all strong headed motor fanatics were gauged under one roof. The event was an immediate commercial success and paved the way for many other events in various cities across the country. As the event sparked a revolution of new fans and love for the game, various associations were created to enforce laws and regulations of the new game.

The main being either the American Motorcyclist Association who is the oldest and most prodigious cycle racing organization. The sport has grown exponentially both in terms of viewership and the quality of competition associated with the sport.

It was in the early part of the 21st century that saw a substantial growth rate of popularity for this game. Currently, the game is now the second most watched motorsport in United States almost matching the viewership and popularity ratings of NASCAR. NASCAR is the most loved and rated #1 motorsport watched but now is facing fierce competition due to the magnitude of the Supercross sport.

Sporting Rules

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) awards three Supercross Championship Champs each year. They are Supercross Champion which until 2006 was referred to as 250 class, Supercross Lites East (which was the 125 East) Champion, and Supercross Lites West Champion. Among the three, the 250 class rate is the highest rated and watched.

The American Motorcyclist Association has put forth as specific schedule that meets the driving needs and viewership demands. The AMA- Supercross starts the events during the last few days of December and the event continues till mid-May timelines.

The event comprises of 17 rounds in the Supercross Class, and 8 rounds in Supercross Lites West Class and 8 rounds in the Supercross Lites East Class. And finally in May, the East-West Shootout takes place.

Each event has two Heat Races in all the respective classes. Each race will comprise of 20 riders in both classes and the top 9 finalists will qualify for the next round. The 11 riders that could not make it to the final 9 will be routed to the Last Chance Qualifier round. The Last Chance Qualifier round has a maximum of 22 riders competing to get a permanent place in the finals. The laps for each class type are different.

Supercross class has 8 laps and Supercross Lites class has 6 laps. Riders in the Supercross Class that failed in any two Heat Races will race 6 laps, where the final two riders finish and moves on to the Main Event And in the Supercross Lites Class, riders that failed in any two heat races will race 4 laps.

The final four riders in this division will move on to the Main Event. In the Main Event, there will be 22 riders for 15 laps in the Supercross Lites Class, and 20 riders for 20 laps in the Supercross Class. The winner will eventually end up winning 25 AMA points. This case applies for both events.

Arenacross

Many people confuse the game of Supercross with "Arenacross". Arenacross is a game that has spun off from the rules of Supercross and follows the same pattern of sportsmanship and regulations. Since Supercross requires extensive land and high end obstacles, many cities cannot support such high financial costs and have to work with their current resources.

Arenacross is primarily Supercross played in stadiums, arenas, and local stadiums instead of baseball fields. Even ice hockey and basketball courts are being used to host Arenacross events. Like Supercross, Arenacross is also gaining momentum among the young generation. Arenacross held its first open in 2006 which got high attendance.

Arenacross events are an excellent way of boasting, and honing the talents of individuals who want to compete in the Supercross sport. Arenacross is an excellent training ground for all amateur motor racers across the world.

In fact, the AMA is using AMA Toyota Arenacross series as a way for riders to transition from amateur racing to supercross. Many supercross privateers race arenacross. Darcy Lange, John Dowd, and even Kevin Johnson all have become Supercross legends and have all originated from the Arenacross playoffs.

Supercross is also gaining momentum in Australia. The Motorcycling Association of Australia is also abiding and strictly adhering to stringent Environmental Sustainability policies as well enforcing National Environmental Code and different Management Plans.

Australians also love the thrill that comes from participating and watching fast paced motorcycle racing and have an event of their own called the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. Australia's biggest weekend of motorcycle racing returns to Phillip Island 2 to 5 October 2008.
