Sec Mens Basketball Tickets Information

SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament is a basketball conference organized by the Southeastern Conference, popularly known as the SEC. In the tournament, 12 league schools play in a single-elimination format, seeding on season records. The winner, that is the last team standing after the eliminations, takes home the bid to the “NCAA men’s basketball tournament”. The official winner, however, is the team that sets the season’s highest record and they are awarded the Conference Championship. To this date, Kentucky remains the school with the highest number of wins with 27 championships under their belt. This is only followed by Alabama with 6 wins.

SEC Men’s Basketball tickets for the 2012 tournament are now available. The event will be held at the “New Orleans Arena” in New Orleans, Louisiana. The first few rounds up to the semifinals will be televised on the SEC Network, after which the ABC network will take over and televise the semifinals and the final. Instead of the traditional “divisions” method, the number 1 to 12 seeding method will be used.

Before the seeding method, the teams or schools were split into two divisions, the Eastern and the Western. The bracketing was much different. The first round consisted of the top teams from both divisions receiving byes. Then, alternate teams from each division would play against each other, for example 3 from the East against 6 in the West, or 4 in the West against 5 in the East and so on. The winners from each bracket would progress onto the next round. Finally, the number one team from the first division would play against the second team on the other division so that there was a winner from each division, even though this seldom happened in the actual tournament.

For the 2012 SEC Men’s Basketball tournament, the seeding method will be adopted. This means that teams will be bracketed differently, being more similar to the system used in the “SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament”. On the first day, four teams from the top of the conference standings will be given byes in the first round. This means the winners from each of the first four games will progress onto the quarter finals where they will play the next four brackets. Next, the winners will go onto play the semifinals until two teams are left to play the final. Thus, SEC Men’s Basketball tickets will be available for 11 different matches being held over the course of four days.

Before the New Orleans arena, various sites all over the US have been host to the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Georgia Dome, the “Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, Louisiana Superdome, the Rupp Arena, the Bridgestone Arena, and the Alexander Memorial Coliseum have been popular venues over the years.

The Arkansas Razorbacks were the first team ever to win by playing all games during the course of four days and becoming the recipient of the “NCAA Basketball Championships” automatic bid. After Arkansas’s success in 2000, this feat has been achieved twice only.
