Premier League Darts Tickets Information
Premier League Darts
The Whyte & Mackay Premier League is a darts tournament which launched on January 20, 2005, on Sky Sports. The league is now played weekly from February to May, having originally started as a fortnightly fixture.
The tournament originally featured seven players and now sees eight of the biggest names from the PDC circuit competing in a round-robin format, with matches held across the country at different venues.
The new sponsors for 2008 will be Whyte & Mackay who succeed Holsten having signed a three-year contract to support the event in October 2007. The prize fund will rise from £265,000 to £340,000 in 2008 with the guaranteed minimum of £20,000 for each player that qualifies. The top prize of £100,000 matches the prize of the 2008 PDC World Champion.
One of the biggest surprises of the tournament was non-playing related and featured the announcement in February 2006 that Raymond van Barneveld was switching from the British Darts Organization to the PDC, having been a previous four-time BDO World Champion. Phil Taylor has dominated this event winning all three competitions staged between 2005 and 2007. He has remained unbeaten with a record of

Television Coverage
The matches have been broadcast on Thursday nights on Sky Sports since the tournament started. American sports channel OLN aired the 2006 Premier League Darts season on a slight delay, in August 2006.German sports channel DSF has broadcasted many matches of the past two years live on TV. The PDC announced in January 2007 that the contract with Sky Television for coverage of the Premier League had been extended to 2010
This fantastic event will feature the best eight players in the sport battling over three months in one of the game's most exciting tournaments. Phil The Power Taylor has been the Premier League champion for the past three years, maintaining an incredible unbeaten record in the league phase before triumphing in the play-offs.
The tournament will be played on 14 successive Thursday nights around the UK from 31 January, with players facing each other twice before the top four progresses to the play-offs at the end of May - with every dart screened live on Sky Sports.
PDC Chairman Barry Hearn praised the tournament and enormous growth of the sport each year and he is looking forward to the 2008 Premier League Darts
This year PDC was able to take the Premier League to arena venues and the response was incredible. Seeing 5,000 fans at Sheffield and Birmingham was tremendous and it is expected that they will come again next year. Liverpool is one of the world's great sporting cities and PDC can't wait to give darts fans there the chance to see the very best players in the sport.
Taylor and current Ladbrokes.com World Darts Champion Raymond van Barneveld are assured of a place in the tournament, along with six other leading stars to be announced later this year. The expectations are high for next years’ tournament.
