History:

In the late 1980s, the Venustiano Carranza no longer had sufficient seating capacity for the crowds. Atletico Morelia used to play their games there. Copa Libertadores:
Under coach Rubén Omar Romano, Monarcas Morelia managed to reach the semi finals of the Copa Libertadores [2002]. Due to their performance during the competition, as well as generally throughout the season, FIFA named Monarcas Morelia ‘Best Team in the World’ in April 2002.

Apertura 2006:
Coach Hugo Hernandez was in charge of Monarcas Morelia during the Apertura of 2006. In the 10th match of the competition, Marco Antonio Figueroa replaced him. During this period, Monarcas Morelia’s ranking was 12th, which meant that it did not qualify for the Liguilla.
