The team was then left in the last place among NLE with only a sixteen to twenty-two record. Seventy-two year old Jack McKeon then entered to replace Torborg, and steered the team wild card berth in National League for the playoffs. The Marlins then won from the well-known New York Yankees in four to two games in the World Series of 2003.
