Denver Broncos Tickets Information
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are a professional American football team based in Denver, Colorado. Currently, they are a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) Western Division in the National Football League (NFL). In 1960, the Broncos began play as a charter member of the American Football League and joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.
In their early years of their existence, the Broncos were a small-market team that met with little success. But the team has made great improvement. It has now become one of the elite franchises of the league. It has been successful in advancing to the Super Bowl six times. In the National Football League, the Broncos are now widely considered one of the most successful teams. Measured both in TV ratings and merchandising, the team has enjoyed a great fan support.
The team suffered successively lopsided defeats in their first four Super Bowl appearances. As frustrated losers, the team achieved near-legendary status.Later on, under quarterback John Elway, running back Terrell Davis and coach Mike Shanahan, the Denver Broncos were successful in winning back-to-back Super Bowl championships in 1998 and 1999.
Franchise history:
The first-ever American Football League game was won by Broncos on September 9, 1960. They defeated the Boston Patriots, 13-10. They had the honor of being the first AFL team ever to defeat an NFL team, on August 5, 1967 when they beat the Detroit Lions 13-7 in a preseason game. Denver won the Super bowl in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. However, they reached the Super Bowl six times.
There was a time when Denver was the lowliest of teams. It tasted its first winning season in 1973 after thirteen years of futility. During the upstart league's 10-year history, they were the only original AFL team never to have played in the title game.
In 1965, Denver was about to lose its franchise when the control of the team was taken over by a local ownership group that year. The group started rebuilding the team.
1996:
The start of the season was encouraging. The Broncos get out of the blocks fast winning their first 3 on the way to a 12-1 start. The Broncos would jump out quickly grabbing a 12-0 lead in the 1st Quarter, but would give it up quickly as the Jags scored 23 unanswered points.
1999:
Without John Elway the Broncos would stumble out of the gate losing their first 4 games. The knee injury to Terrell Davis in the 4th game of the season made the matters even worse. The Broncos would go on to split their final 12 games, to finish with a 6-10 record.
Despite the disappointing record of the team, there was plenty to be proud of. The back up RB Olandis Gary filed in admirably for Davis rushing for 1,159 yards, while 2nd year QB Brian Griese passed for 3,032 yards giving hope the Broncos road back would not be a long one.
With the momentum of a four game winning streak, the Broncos entered their third consecutive year in the playoffs. With a record of 13-3, they were tied with the Seattle Seahawks for second overall in the league. They were seeded number two in the AFC behind the Colts.
The two-time defending champions, the New England Patriots were defeated by the Broncos on January 14, 2006.It gave a death blow to the Patriots chances of becoming the first NFL team ever to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships. The last team with a chance of winning three consecutive Super Bowls before the Patriots were the Broncos themselves. The Broncos' run came to an end when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship 34-17 on January 22, 2006.
2007
The 2006-2007 off-season saw a tragic start. Uust a few hours after the Broncos last game of the 2006 season, Cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in his H2 limousine on New Years Day. Soon after, Broncos 3rd string running back Damien Nash collapsed and died.
Home field
The Denver Broncos played in Mile High Stadium for most of their history. For its record ongoing streak of sell-outs, the venue became one of the shrines of professional football. The stadium's legendary home-field advantage is regarded as one of the best in the NFL, especially during the post-season.
Over the past 32 years (1974-2006, 191-65-1), the Broncos have had the best home record in pro football. With steel flooring instead of concrete, Mile High Stadium was one of the NFL's loudest stadiums.
