History
The Chelsea were founded on 14 March 1905 at The Rising Sun now called "The Butcher's Hook" opposite the present-day main entrance to the ground on Fulham Road, thus said club were elected to the Football League shortly afterwards.
The club's achieved little success in early days so Chelsea's club was winning a major trophy FA Cup final in 1915. The Chelsea's has gained a reputation for signing big-name players and for being entertainers.
The era of 60s
The year 1960 was the emergence of a talented young Chelsea side under manager ship Tommy Docherty. The club was on course for a treble of League, FA Cup and League Cup which was in their final stages in year 1964–65 season.
The club was winning the League Cup but undecided in the other two. Thus in three seasons, side was beaten in three major semi-finals and so declared FA Cup runners up.
In 1970, Chelsea were FA Cup winners, beating Leeds United in a final replay. So in this way Chelsea took their first European honour, a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup triumph, the following year, with another replayed win, this time over Real Madrid in Athens.
Turbulent 70s and 80s
The late 1970s and 1980s are known as turbulent period for Chelsea. Due to redevelopment of Stamford Bridge threatened the financial stability of the club star players who were sold and as a result team was relegated.
Chelsea was acquired by Ken Bates. The team had fared little better, coming close to relegation to the Third Division for the first time.
Thus result club Chelsea won the Second Division title for the Year 1983–84 and based themselves in the top division, before being relegated again in 1988. The club bounced back immediately by winning the Second Division championship in 1988–89.
Legal battle in 90s
After a long-running legal battle, Bates reunited the stadium freehold with the club in 1992 by doing a deal with the banks of the property developers, who had been bankrupted by a market crash. Chelsea's form in the new Premier League was unconvincing, although they did reach the FA Cup final in 1994.
2005, Chelsea's centenary year
In Millennium Stadium club became Premiership champion in "Season League Cup", over Liverpool in 2005 which was Chelsea's anniversary year. The subsequent year, they were again League Champions, breaking their own Premier ship record.
Premier League Champion in Year 2007
In 2007, series of victories for Chelsea who won the FA Cup and League Cup but runners-up to Manchester United.
On 20 September 2007, company was separated with Chelsea and was replaced by Israeli Director of Football Avram Grant whom the club finished as runners-up in the Premier League and the League Cup.
Manager of club
The Ted Drake became manager in 1952 and proceeded to modernize the club. He removed the club's Chelsea pensioner crest, improved the youth training, rebuilt the side, and led Chelsea to their first major trophy success the League championship in 1954–55.
The following season, after objections from The Football League and the FA, Chelsea were persuaded to withdraw from the competition of European Champions' Cup before it started.
Kit colours
The Chelsea club's kit colors are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks and their traditional crest is a formal blue lion holding a staff; a modified version was adopted in 2005.
Club's Remarkable Victories
Former European Footballer; Year Ruud Gullit, was appointed as player-manager in 1996 and thus fortunes for the said club were totally changed. He added several top-class international players to the side, particularly Gianfranco Zola, as the club won the FA Cup in 1997.
Gullit was replaced by Gianluca Vialli, who led the team to victory in the League Cup and Winners' Cup in 1998, the FA Cup in 2000 and the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2000. Vialli was sacked in favors of another Italian, Claudio Ranieri, who guided Chelsea until 2002 FA Cup final and Champions League qualification in 2002–03.
