Later, under the leadership of Frank Broyles, head coach, the football team was awarded the National Championship by the Helms Athletic Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America in 1964. The Razorbacks, who were ranked number 2, played the most significant game in 1969. They played against top ranked Texas Longhorns.
