Young Jeezy the hip hop star from Atlanta, has formed a reputation and credibility of an original non-commercial street rapper. Young Jeezy entered music in 2001, working in collaboration with names like Freddy J., Kinky B and Lil Jon. His first two independent releases Thugging Under Influence and Come Shop With Me featured his original score . Boyz n da Hood his first band with the self titled album made waves on Billboards. In periphery his demos pronounced him the hottest rap street act for screening labels: Warner, Interscope and Def Jam Records. He decided for Def Jam and came out with, Lets Get It: Thug Motivation 101 (2005). The Inspiration won great critical acclaim and was awarded the Ozone Award for the Best Rap Album in 2008.
Boyz n da Hood’s Dem Boyz was Jezzy’s last piece with the band. He later parted ways to pursue rap as a solo artist. The rap group USDA coupled with him to work on Cold Summer . The release of this album took stands by storm, USDA became the new and true sound of street rap. Switching back to the solo mood Jeezy worked that year to release his third album The recession (2008). Singles Vacation, Crazy World and Who Dat were reminiscent of Jezzy’s mild gear shift to R&B. The album featured brilliant collaborations; Put On with Kayne West and My President with Nas.
Young Jezzy’s earlier mode switch to the accelerated R&B resulted in a list of hit singles in 2008. Peaking at the Billboard charts, Love in the Club with Usher became an Ozone Award winner. Hard with Rihanna won the BET Viewer's Choice Award . Other R&B hits featuring Jezzy include Im So Paid by Akon and Lil Wayne, Say I from Christina Millian and Never End from Ciara’s studio release. Another R&B collaboration I'm So Hood (the remix) won the BET Hip-Hop Awards for Best Hip-Hop Collaboration in 2008.
Later in the line came his Grammy nominated collaborations; Amazing with Kanye West (2010) and Lose My Mind with Plies (2011). Both were nominated for the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group . These nominations and list of other awards advocate his ability to re-rap street rap, the Jeezy way. He has immense potential to wrap up and present a story through the most vivid colours and music. Further more, he proves a solid grip over the lyrical side which also retains its street core.
Through 2010 and 2011 Jeezy was mostly about Thug Motivation 103, TM 103 . The releases Lose My Mind, Ballin and Illin, feature him alongside Lil Wayne and Pusha T. Run DMC and Ballin through official preleases gained tremendous appreciation. TM 103 loaded the airwaves heavily and occupied major hip hop playtime, becoming a hot favourite by the hour.
