Vince Gill is a multi Grammy award winner singer and a musician. He won the hearts of millions of fans with his songs and music.
Biography
Vince Gill was born in Norman, Oklahoma. Before starting high school at Oklahoma City's Northwest Classen High School, He learned to play several instruments, including banjo and guitar. He played in a number of bluegrass bands after his graduation.Later,he became a member of Rodney Crowell's road band, The Cherry Bombs.
In 1979, Vince was successful in appearing on the national scene by debuting with the country rock band Pure Prairie League. He made an appearance on that band's album Can't Hold Back. Gill has the honor of being the lead singer on their hit song "Let Me Love You Tonight" (1980). He still enjoys performing this song in the concert after so many year.
Before signing as a solo with RCA Records in 1983, Gill appeared on two subsequent albums along with then-wife Janis Gill.In 1989 he switched to MCA Records where his breakthrough hit "When I Call Your Name." was recorded. His 1998 album The Key was also greatly applauded.
Gill had the honor of hosting the CMA Awards every year from 1992 to 2003. He received a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance in 2004. It was great honor for Gill when he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1997.
Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler was a great fan of Gill's music. He offered Gill to join the band full time. The invitation was turned down by Gill.However, He sang backup on one song ("The Bug") from Dire Straits' album On Every Street.
Gill has also sung duets with numerous artists. These include Dolly Parton ("I Will Always Love You"), Reba McEntire ("Oklahoma Swing," "The Heart Won't Lie," "It Just Has to Be That Way"), Amy Grant ("House of Love"), and Barbra Streisand ("If You Ever Leave Me"). More recently, harmony vocals on the Brooks & Dunn 2006 hit "Building Bridges" were sung by Vince and Sheryl Crow.
Personal life
Gill's first wife was the country singer Janis Gill of Sweethearts of the Rodeo fame. They married in 1980. The couple have one daughter, Jennifer Jerene Gill. Vince and Janis separated in the mid-1990s and eventually divorced in June 1998.
Vince later began dating and eventually married Christian/pop singer Amy Grant in March of 2000. They have one daughter, Corrina Grant Gill.
