Vicente Fernandez is a Mexican ranchero singer. His son, Alejandro Fernandez, is also a popular Mexican artist. With a humble beginnings, he eventually established himself as a famous musician. He and his ranchera music have become most popular in Latin America and in Spain.

Biography
Vicente Fernandez is hailed as the "king of the rancheros." in his native Mexico. He was born and raised in Huentitan el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico on Feb. 17, 1940. His family was very poor and he had to work in his childhood to maintain himself. Fernandez worked as a shoeshine boy, a waiter and dishwasher. Later, he served as cashier and manager of his uncle's restaurant. He also availed the opportunity of singing at a festival in Arandas, Jalisco during his youth.

At 14, he entered an amateur singing contest in Guadalajara and won first place. Winning a Guadalajara singing contest proved to be a breakthrough in his career. He received his first payment for singing at age 21 by appearing in the show "La Calandria Musical". He earned 35 pesos. Fernandez decided to earn his living by singing at 21.

Initially, he sang for tips at the Amanecer Tapatio, serenaded drivers who sat waiting to move in traffic, and continued with "La Calandria Musical." From there he went on to sing with some of Mexico's best-known mariachi groups, such as Amanecer de Pepe Mendoza and the Mariachi of Jose Luis Aguilar. He was able to meet Felipe Arriaga through these groups. In 2005, Fernandez and his sons, Alejandro and Vicente Jr., made history by becoming the first Latin American singers to appear as cartoons in a video, for Vicente Sr.'s song, Al Mayor de los Fernandez (To the Oldest Fernandez). Maria del Refugio Abarca Villaseor is Vicente's wife since December 27, 1963. Vicente has had three sons with her: Vicente Jr, Gerardo, and Alejandro. In Mexico he is referred to as "El Rey" (the king) and as "El Charro de Huentitan" (the Charro of Huentitan). His wife is affectionately known as Doa Cuca. Vicente.His son Alejandro, is often called a Don Juan and is notorious for being a ladies man.

In 2004, Vicente had to pay $30,000 USD for having gone over the original scheduled time for the concert while in concert in Miami's American Airlines Arena.. He sang for three hours some of his all time hits as well as songs from his then new album "Se Me Hizo Tarde la Vida".

Vicente has the honor of being a star in Hollywood's Walk of Fame and over 5,000 people attended his ceremony. It broke all previous attendance records. Fernandez remains very active in his 60's, playing to large crowds and having an ample discography that makes him one of Latin music's highest-grossing artists. 1976 saw his big break when songwriter Fernando Maldonado wrote a ranchera tune that went against tradition: a macho accepts blame in a relationship and begs the woman to come back to him. Volver, became a huge hit. This song gave him a hand up to ascend the throne as El Rey of the ranchera.

Vicente was involved in a scandal. His relations with Patricia Rivera were brought to public. He met Particial in 1977 while filming "El Arracadas". Years later she declared that her son, Pablo Rodrigo, was a product of that relationship. Vicente agreed to recognize Rodrigo as his son, giving him the Fernandez name. Afterwards DNA testing proved that Pablo was not his son.
