An immensely popular American summer music-fest, the Vans Warped Tour has become a huge success showcasing established artists for the past 12 years. It is held during the summer months, at various venues across the country. The Emergence of the Warped Tour
Back in 1994, while working on skateboarding shows such as the Vision Skate Escape and Holiday Havoc, the Warped Tour founder and producer Kevin Lyman thought of mixing music and skateboarding on a larger scale. As a result the Warped Tour emerged as a touring punk music and extreme sports festival. The tour has always been a place to explore and discover new music. Bands such as blink-182, Limp Bizkit, No Doubt, The Suicide Machines, Papa Roach, and Eminem have all performed at the tour before becoming well known. New bands continue to emerge to cater to the newer generations of pop-punk and post-hardcore music fans. While various bands have come and gone from this tour in the last few years, there are a few bands that have continuously revitalized their sets show after show. In 1998 the Vans Warped Tour went international to include venues in Australia, Japan and even Europe.

The Concerts
The annual Vans Warped Tour has dramatically outgrown its initial size from showcasing just two stages in 1995, to having ten stages with at least 100 bands performing continuously throughout the entire day. On the two main stages bands perform side by side with 30 minute sets, as well as other stages surrounding the venue, complete with BMX and Skater Competitions on the grounds to entertain all fans. The stages are usually temporary structures that fold into one or more trailer loads. If the venue is an amphitheatre, the amphitheatre stage is often used.

The two main stages were formerly designated "Main Stage Left" and "Main Stage Right". In the past, they have borne other names, such as "Brian" and "Teal", but in 2007 were called "Lucky" and "13". Early in the day you get through ones you never heard or ones that you seem to know something about from others. Then in the middle of the day there are a handful of bands that get the pits moving and the crowd surfing nonstop. The tour puts certain key bands on later in the day. Every year there is a "BBQ Band," which, in exchange for the privilege of playing on the tour, must prepare food for the bands and crew for the barbecue which is held most evenings.

Past "BBQ Bands" have included Dropkick Murphys and "The Fabulous Rudies. Bands have referred to Warped as "punk-rock summer camp" for years, probably because of these nightly barbeques and bonfires, along with other backstage activities. With all the musical bonding at the Warped, it's easy to forget the tour also features skateboarding and other extreme sports shows.

The Vans Warped Tour 2007
During the Vans Warped Tour 2007 there were some key performances that stood out, especially old-school rocker Joan Jett who came on in the middle of day and kicked out old favorites "Bad Reputation," "Crimson & Clover," and the rock anthem from the eighties "I Love Rock N Roll." Other bands that rocked out were Helmet, and of course straight from Wales United Kingdom, Bullet For My Valentine who have taken off like a rocket with their latest CD featuring "Tears Don't Fall," "All These Things I Hate," and "The Poison". Each year SideOneDummy Records releases a Warped Tour compilation album. The albums contain songs from many of the bands who play on the tour.

Trivia
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland unveiled a 2007 exhibit and time capsule that document the story of the Warped Tour from its inception through the present. The exhibit, "Warped: 12 Years of Music, Mayhem and More," opened January 27 and ran through September 3, 2007. The presentation features memorabilia from No Doubt, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, NOFX, New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance, Joan Jett, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls, Rancid, Helmet, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, All-American Rejects and others. It is reported that when the initial six-month exhibit ends, these items will be put into a "time capsule" to be stored at the Museum for 25 years, opened at a special event in 2031 and displayed for the next six months.
