Sugarland Tickets Information
Sugarland
Sugarland - American country music, originally a trio of singer/songwriters from the Atlanta, GA, area, comprised of Lead singer Jennifer Nettles, who previously fronted Soul Miner's Daughter, with her gospel background and deep soul approach to country music, songwriter Kristen Hall, who previously released two solo albums on Windham Hill Records, and Kristian Bush was formerly a member of critically acclaimed duo Billy Pilgrim, which had also released a pair of albums.
All three members were well-known members of Atlanta's folk/acoustic/rock scene in the 1990s and early 2000s.
They played frequently at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia, owned by Nettles' husband for a time. Nettles graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, and played with Soul Miner's Daughter.
The trio started off in 2002, self-releasing an EP of demo recordings called Premium Quality Tunes. After a series of exceptional live shows, they were signed to Mercury Records, which released a two-song single ("Baby Girl" b/w "Stand Back Up") early in 2004, following it up with a Garth Fundis-produced full-length album, Twice the Speed of Life, that same year. In 2006 another full-length, Enjoy the Ride, was released by Mercury Nashville and was a major hit.
The group released four singles from Twice the Speed of Life: "Baby Girl," "Something More," "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," and "Down In Mississippi (Up To No Good)". A fifth track, "Stand Back Up", received significant play as an album cut, and thus reached the lower regions of the charts. The group's first album, Twice the Speed of Life, has sold over 2 million copies, earning it a 2x platinum designation.
In late 2005, the band performed with Bon Jovi on Crossroads - Country Music Television's musical fusion show. They toured in US and Canada performing with Brad Paisley in 2005 and in 2006 with Brooks and Dunn. They were nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy and performed the song "Something More" at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2006.
Sugarland performed at the 2006 CMT Music Awards with bassist Annie Clements. There, they received multiple nominations including Group/Duo Video of the Year for "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," Breakthrough Video of the Year for "Something More," and Collaborative Video of the Year for "Who Says You Can't Go Home."
Hall, being a talented and poised songwriter, was credited with working on only a single track on Enjoy the Ride, and her abrupt departure from the group in 2006, leaving Sugarland a duo, was a surprise, indeed.
Sugarland released a new album on November 7, 2006 entitled Enjoy the Ride. The set sold 211,000 during its first week and opened at #4 on the US Top 200 and at #2 on the Country Chart.
Also, the duo had released a single for their sophomore album entitled "Want To." The song became the duo's first #1, spending two weeks there. The second single from the album, "Settlin'", is currently active on the charts. The video for the single was shot outside of Atlanta, Georgia, in early November. The shoot featured 461 extras, rollaway walls, and a large rotating platform.
"Settlin'" was used as the theme song for the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament during Raycom Sports
