Punch Brothers Tickets Information
The Punch Brothers was an idea conceived by the remarkably talented mandolin player Chris Thile. He had a long standing fascination with bluegrass and rock. Chris stepped up into the world of music when he met the Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins. The three of them teamed up to form the Nickel Creek in 1989 to kick start a new era that was to take the genre to a whole new level. They stayed together till 2007 and during that time span released six amazing albums. Their music made headlines for all the right reasons and brought their way a Grammy and numerous other awards.
The seeds that turned out to grow in the form of the Punch Brothers were sowed in 2005, two years before the break-up of Nickel Creek. That was the time when Chris was working on some projects of his own with his best friend and the amazing fiddler Gabe Witcher. For one of their ventures they needed a group of five performers who could play banjo, violin, bass, guitar and mandolin. They saw banjo player Noam Pikelny perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and were so impressed by him that he was brought onboard instantly. Greg Garrison then joined as the bassist and Chris Eldridge took on the guitars. The five of them got together to jam in 2005 for a special session. The chemistry was instantaneous so they decided to record something special. That came about in the form of How to Grow a Woman from the Ground in 2006.
They named the group How to Grow a Band which was then switched to The Tensions Mountain Boys. Another name change took place shortly afterwards as the band was named the Punch Brothers. The name was inspired by a story by the legendary Mark Twain titled Punch, Brother, Punch. Their arrival on the music scene received rave reviews from critics across the board and earned the album their first Grammy nomination. They followed the release of the album by going on a major tour which was a big success too.
They hit the studio once again as soon as the tour was over to work on their next project titled The Blind Leaving the Blind. It was an unbelievably ambitious four suite movement song that was creative to say the least. All the four movements were to become the part of the Punch Brothers next album, Punch. Composition of The Blind Leaving the Blind’s four versions took over a year and a half. The hard work showed when the song was released which was subsequently followed by the album hitting the music stores. Once again the effort was appreciated by fans and critics alike. Allmusic, Time Out New York and The Guardian all gave it four stars out of five. 2010 saw the release of their next album Antifogmatic. It was a creation that had both the conventional bluegrass as well as newgrass. It showed the diversity and the full repertoire of the band and became a huge hit upon its release. Their next album was titled Who’s Feeling Young Now which was released on Valentines Day, 2012. The group took a different approach to this album to make it more appealing to a much broader audience. In order to do that they gave it an indie-rock theme that was very close to traditional bluegrass.
The Punch Brothers have arrived on the big stage in some style. What started as an experimental project has now gone on to become one of the most important bluegrass bands of the current era. Their unique sound and music have become the hallmarks with which they are recognized. The fact they are on tour provide the perfect opportunity for the fans to buy Punch Brothers tickets and catch them performing live.
