Pink Martini
Pink Martini is a band from Portland, Oregon. It is a 12-piece music band that was created by pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale in 1994. They are known for blending latin, classical, lounge, and jazz music.

Pink Martini was formed in order to play for political functions in Portland, Oregon. The band made its first European appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. Right up to 2003, the band toured many countries. These countries include Portugal, Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Monaco, Taiwan, Lebanon and the U.S. where they performed with other musicians or on their own.

Sympathique, Pink Martini's debut album, was launched by their own label, Heinz Records. More than 1.3 million copies of this album were sold internationally.

By October 2004, Pink Martini launched their second album called Hang on Little Tomato. Pink Martini's CD release concert sold out quick enough for the band to announce a second live show night. When the band moved from their first to their second album, Pepe Raphael, their guest-singer, parted so that he could work with his other band Pepe and the Bottle Blondes. This allowed lead singer China Forbes to carry on writing songs with Lauderdale. This effort helped the band to maintain an original direction.

Pink Martini songs have grown to be quite well known. They have appeared in movies too. To name a few, their songs appear in films such as Josie and the Pussycats, In the Cut, Nurse Betty, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Tortilla Soup. Their songs have also been used for television shows. These would include The Sopranos, The West Wing, and Dead Like Me. The band's song "No Hay Problema" is used as background/setup tune for Microsoft's Windows Server 2003. Pink Martini performed live on New Year's Eve, 2005. This performance that was at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon was aired live on National Public Radio's Toast of the Nation. It is also available on DVD. With some help from Norman Leyden, the band began performing with other orchestras across the nation. This widened the bands fan base. On June 1, 2007, the bands members were guests on the BBC Two Later with Jools Holland TV music programme.
