Oasis
‘Oasis' is an English rock band founded in Manchester in 1991. The group was formed by lead vocalist Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul Arthurs, bassist Paul McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll. The present lineup is completed by rhythm guitarist and songwriter Gem Archer, guitarist and songwriter Andy Bell and unofficial drummer Zak Starkey. The Gallagher brothers are the band's foremost songwriters. The band initially garnered popularity performing on the Manchester club circuit.

Oasis evolved from ‘The Rain', an earlier band and was primarily comprising of Paul ‘Guigsy McGuigan', Warren Mackenzie, Paul Arthurs, Tony McCarroll and Chris Hutton. Arthurs auditioned acquaintance Liam Gallagher as a replacement for Hutton. After Liam Gallagher joined The Rain, the group name was changed to Oasis. Oasis presented its first live gig in August of 1991 at the Boardwalk club in Manchester.

Noel Gallagher went with the band to watch his younger brother's band play. Whilst Noel and his friends did not think Oasis sounded spectacular, he began considering the possibility of using his brother's group as an outlet for his own songs. Gallagher approached Oasis about joining provided he would become the band's sole songwriter and leader. Oasis under Noel Gallagher was performing with a musical approach that relied on simplicity. With Arthurs restricted to playing barred chords and McGuigan to root bass notes, McCarroll to basic rhythms, and the band's amplifiers turned up as to create distortion, Oasis produced a sound devoid of finesse and complexity. The music came out sounding pretty much unstoppable.

Following a limited white label release of the demo of their song ‘Columbia', their first single, ‘Supersonic', was released in April 1994, reaching number 31 in the charts. The release was followed by ‘Shakermaker' and ‘Live Forever'. Oasis signed an agreement with Creation Records and afterwards released their debut album entitled ‘Definitely Maybe' in 1994. The group recorded ‘What's the Story, ‘Morning Glory' with their new drummer Alan White the following year. The Gallagher brothers were featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their sibling rivalry with Britpop peers and wild lifestyles. These news cultivated reputations both as bad boys and as a band of the people.

Right at the height of their fame, Oasis released their third album called ‘Be Here Now' I 1997. ‘Be Here Now' became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history, but lost much of its long-term attraction after the initial hype and pleasing reception tempered. While recording their fourth album, ‘Standing on the Shoulder of Giants' in 1999, Oasis lost two leading members which reduced the band's popularity in America. The band added substitutes Gem Archer and Andy Bell for Heathen Chemistry in 2002. In 2005, despite turbulent recording, Oasis' sixth album ‘Don't Believe the Truth with Zak Starkey, became their best-selling and best-received album in a decade.

The following year, Oasis released a compilation album, ‘Stop the Clocks'. In 2007, the band received the BRIT Award for their outstanding contribution to music genre. The seventh studio album by the group is ready and is expected that the album is due out in September 2008.
