Personal life
Natalie Cole was born on February 6, 1950). The noted crooner Nat King Cole is her father. She was raised in an affluent area of Los Angeles. Her famous father died of lung cancer when she was 15 years old.She attended the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts. She was exposed to the greats of jazz, soul and blues at an early age, and she began performing at the age of 11.
Music career
Early career
She released her debut album, Inseparable in 1975. It resulted in chart success with the single "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" (#1 R&B, #6 Pop). Natalie Cole’s performance of the song was very much appreciated and won her a 1976 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Another important award, the Best New Artist Grammy of 1976 was also won by her.
Natalie Cole has successfully produced many super hit songs.More hits followed through 1980, including her biggest Pop hit, 1977's "I've Got Love On My Mind," as well as "Sophisticated Lady (She's A Different Lady)" (1976), "Our Love" (1978), and "Someone That I Used To Love" (1980). "I've Got Love On My Mind" and "Our Love" both earned certifications as Gold singles.
Career detour and resurgence
Owing to her severe drug problem, there was a set back to Cole's career in the early 1980s. However, Cole met this challenge with great courage and was back in good health by 1985. She was then able to begin a comeback.
She restarted with her work on the album Dangerous which was released on the Modern label. Everlasting (on EMI Manhattan) was another one which was released by her in 1987. It brought huge success for Cole. The album became a mega hit and over 2 million copies were sold in the U.S.. This remarkable album also won Cole a Soul Train Award for Female Single of the Year for the #1 R&B ballad "I Live for Your Love". Her three major hit singles: "Jump Start," "I Live For Your Love" (#2 AC and #13 Pop as well as #1 R&B), and a successful remake of Bruce Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac" (#5 Pop, #16 AC, and #1 Dance) were included in this album.
Cole’s another chart success came with the release of her new album, Good To Be Back in 1989. The Single "Miss You Like Crazy" ranked (#1 both R&B and AC, and #7 Pop).
"Unforgettable...with Love"
Cole’s 1991 album, Unforgettable... with Love is considered to be the supreme of her works. This album her own arrangements of her father's greatest hits.Her decision to record the songs was a chart success. In the United States alone, there was a record sale of over 5 million copies of the album.
Cole was also successful in winning several Grammy Awards due to this remarkable album. These Awards include Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance.
The album featured a duet, the title track, with her father, created by splicing a recording of his vocals into the track. As a single, it went gold and also reached #14 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 chart.

"Leavin'", a cover album of tracks was released by her in September 2006. The album is a hybrid of rock, pop music, and R&B.The album was made popular by Shelby Lynne, Kate Bush, Sting, and Fiona Apple, among others.
Television and film
Cole also showed interest in acting and started acting as her secondary career. She has availed the opportunities of making appearances in live concerts or other music related programs several times. These include the 1988 Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute with sidemen Richard Campbell, Jeffrey Worrell, Eddie Cole and Dave Joyce.
Natalie was also invited by Johnny Mathis to be a part of his television special titled "A Tribute To Nat Cole" for BBC-TV in England.
A number of dramatic appearances on television were made by Cole. These include guest appearances on I'll Fly Away, Touched by an Angel, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. A memorable guest appearance on the popular ABC show Grey's Anatomy as a terminally ill patient was made by her in 2006.
Cole has also tried her luck infeature films. Most recently, She has made an appearance in the Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely. She has appeared in several made-for-TV movies, most notably as the lead in Lily in Winter.
She also has the honor of singing the national anthem with the University of Atlanta choir at Super Bowl XXVIII.
