Maze Frankie Beverly Tickets Information
Maze Frankie Beverly is the brainchild of Frankie Beverly. He was born on 6th December, 1946 in Philadelphia. He stared his musical journey through gospel music that he used to sing in a local church. From there he became a member of The Silhouettes. Frankie was only twelve years old at that time. His next step was to create his own band The Blenders that was borne out of fascination with the likes of The Del Vikings, The Dells and The Moonglows. He then went on to form another group shortly afterwards and names it The Butlers. He started recording with the band in the early 1960’s. Those recordings ended up catching admiring glances from a lot of people. One of the admirers turned out to be the famous producer Kenny Gamble who became the first person to release their music. That propelled the group quite a lot of positive headlines locally but that was just about as good as it got. Frankie had aspirations to go much further than that so the group decided to relocate to San Francisco. It was this move that led them to meeting Marvin Gaye and that one meeting was the start of Maze Frankie Beverly as we know them today.
Marvin was among the biggest stars of that era. When he heard the kind of music the group were coming out with, he couldn’t help but be impressed. Marvin then started giving them opening slots on his concerts which gave the band a taste of how it felt to perform in front of a huge live audience. They were known as Raw Soul during those days but on Marvin’s suggestion they changed the name to Maze. The group finally landed their first big contract when Capitol Records brought them onboard in the year 1976. That agreement paved the way for the group to work on and come out with their first album Maze featuring Frankie Beverly the following year. Tracks like Lady of Magic, Happy Feelin’s and While I’m Alone all turned out to be hits and the album went gold.
Maze Frankie Beverly then made it four straight gold certified hits with epics Golden Time of Day, Inspiration and Joy and Pain to rank among the biggest names of that era. Singles Back in Stride and Can’t Get Over You took their popularity and profile further than ever before. Back in Stride was also among the star attractions of their 1985 album, Can’t Stop the Love. The track had already gone to the number one spot on various charts and that played a big part in turning the album into a big hit as well. Consistent success and acclaim garnered over the years had by this time converted them into global stars. That very year they went on to perform a series of eight concerts at the magnificent Hammersmith Odeon, London with each one of them being a completely sold-out event. The band went to sign for Warner Bros and made their label debut in 1989 with album Silky Soul. The album turned out to be another timeless classic that wooed one and all. Some people started doubting their ability to create hits post Silky Soul. The group’s answer to that was the 1993 album Back to Basics that only became a huge hit but put them back into the limelight.
Maze Frankie Beverly have been a force to be reckoned with for over three decades, which is nothing short of remarkable. They have carried the torch and played their part in not only making the genres famous but give soul and jazz a new direction.
