Loverboy Tickets Information
Loverboy’s history can be traced back to 1979 when the group came together in Calgary, Alberta. At the time Paul Dean played at various jam sessions in Calgary and it was at one of these sessions that he met Mike Reno. Soon both of them were writing songs together. It was at another session that the two met their third member Doug Johnson and later Paul’s old band mate Matt Frenette also joined them to become the fourth member of the band. The next step was to come up with a name. The name was inspired from Cover Girl which they changed to Cover Boy and then eventually decided with Loverboy. Now all they needed was a bass player. While Loverboy continued to work on their music they also managed to get their bass player, when Scott Smith left his band and decided to join them at the end of 1979.
Loverboy surfaced on the music scene when it was signed by Columbia Records of Canada and they released their self-titled debut album in 1980. The album became a huge hit. It was released first in Canada and later in the US as the album was originally refused by Columbia Records in the United States. However, the success it met with in Canada made them change their mind and when the album was released in the US it went Gold within six months only. Riding on the success of their first album the band went on a touring spree and the following year came up with another hit album, titled, Get Lucky. The album landed on number seven on Billboard 200 album chart. Loverboy soon became an MTV rock sensation and quickly established themselves as one of America’s popular rock bands. The rock enthusiasts fell in love with their party numbers.
The 80s proved to be a good period for Loverboy the band, as it gave the pop band number of hits and also Juno Awards which is Canada's highest award for music. In 1986, Loverboy came up with their hit number Heaven In Your Eyes that featured in the movie Top Gun. The popular song also reached number twelve on the Billboard charts. Till 1989 Loverboy ruled the rock music scence with number of hits, great music videos and extensive touring.
After that, the band broke up for a while and things remained silent on their front until they came to the limelight again with their participation in 1991 show for cancer patients. The thrill of live performance lured them back to the music scene. Soon the band was back at what it loved doing and started touring heavily.
Six was the album that featured new material in a time of almost ten years, released in 1997. The extensive touring came to an end when tragedy struck and Scott Smith was declared dead after being lost at sea. Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve was later added to the band to take the place of Scott Smith.
The band has continued to perform over the years and in 2009, Loverboy was inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
