Louis C.K. is of American, Mexican heritage as his mother Mary Louise is Irish Catholic and his father is a Mexican citizen. Even though Louis C.K. was born in Washington, he lived in Mexico City until he was seven years old. He still has a Mexican citizenship and his first language is Spanish. When he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, upon seeing George Carlin and Richard Pryor who were his idols, Louis C.K. found out that he wished to be a comedian and a writer. Reaching at the age of ten, his parents got a divorce and he along with his three siblings, were left to be raised by a single mother. What truly inspired Louis C.K. into becoming a producer was the thought of his mother as he was a young boy trying to give his mother a better life and nothing could break that struggle.
In Boston Louis C.K. worked as a car mechanic after he graduated from Newton North High School. It was at the time that he had enough courage for his first act at open-mic night at the comedy club in 1984. The first experience was not very good and after that he did not go for a second attempt for at least two years. He shifted towards paid concerts such as hosting comedy clubs and opening for Jerry Seinfeld until in 1989 when he transferred to Manhattan. This was the actual time when Louis C.K.’s career was started. His contributions as a writer include Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Chris Rock Show, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Dana Carvey Show. He was nominated three times for an Emmy Award for his work in The Chris Rock Show ; in 1999 he won the title of Best Writing In A Variety Or Comedian Series . His work in writing Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Chewed up in 2008 earned him another nomination for an Emmy Award. The feature film Pootie Tang was also written and directed by Louis C.K. which became a cult classic. Black-and-white film Tomorrow Night was also directed and written by him along with Sunny Skies which was aired on Showtime cable network. His other two co-written screenplays were I Think I Love My Wife which was released in 2007 and in 2001, Down to Earth.
Louis C.K. was a regular performer on shows like Lopez Tonight, Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He also appeared in a 30 minutes HBO special series called One Night Stand in 2005, August and later in 2006 he showed up in his own 60 minutes long show on HBO called Shameless . In April 2009, Louis C.K. made a special recording for a stand-up comedy called Hilarious which was released a year later and it was the first comedy stand-up film that was accepted in Sundance. He is presently starring the comedy series called Louise, which he has not only written and edited but has also directed the series as well. Louise C.K. was married to a painter named Alix Bailey, but in 2008 they got divorced.
