Lisa Lampanelli
Lisa Lampugnale a.k.a Lisa Lampanelli - born on July 19, 1961, in Trumbull, Connecticut, frequently called the Loveable Queen of Mean, is an American stand-up comedian and insult comic.
After graduating from Syracuse University in 1983 with a degree in newspaper journalism and also attending a graduate program at Harvard in 1986, she worked as a copy editor at Popular Mechanics and an assistant at Rolling Stone. She was also a fact checker and the first chief of research for Spy magazine; a book about Spy describes her then as "your average decked-out-heavy-metal-head-next-door.
Lampanelli began her stand-up career in New York in the early 90s and made her breakthrough at the 2002 Comedy Central roast of Chevy Chase, She soon became one of the few white comedians to perform on BET's "Comic View," cementing her huge crossover appeal. A year later, she rocked Comedy Central once again in her back-to-back appearances on "Premium Blend" and on the enormously rated, "Roast of Jeff Foxworthy" -- again, the only female invited to roast the man of honor.
She went on to attend the roasts of Pamela Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy, and William Shatner. Lampanelli released a comedy special on DVD entitled Take it Like A Man, appeared in the 2006 motion picture Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, and had a cameo appearance in the VH1 sitcom So NoTORIous. She also made a deal with Fox for a sitcom pilot with the uncertain title Big Loud Lisa, which was considered a candidate for the network's 2006-07 television seasons.
Lampanelli is often on the dais for The Howard Stern Show roasts, including appearances at the roasts for Gary Dell'Abate, Artie Lange, Andy Dick, and KKK member Daniel Carver.
Lampanelli taped her new stand-up special Dirty Girl in the fall of 2006, which aired on Comedy Central on January 28, 2007. It was released by Warner Bros. /Jack Records on January 30, 2007.
Racial humor is a large part of her comedy routine, particularly; she makes frequent references to her real-life relationships with black men.
Lampanelli dominated the club scenes in both New York City and Los Angeles in a few short years. A cross between Don Rickles, Archie Bunker, she even won tributes from The King of All Media, Howard Stern, who described her as "a REAL funny broad."
Lisa is a regular on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and Howard Stern's Sirius satellite radio show. She appeared on Comedy Central's "Last Laugh 2005" and her performances on the Comedy Central roasts of Pamela Anderson and William Shatner achieved national attention. Lisa's 2005 one-hour special, "Take It Like a Man," was a hit with the comedy network yet again, and the CD and the DVD of the same name hit #6 on the comedy charts. Lisa's second one-hour special, "Dirty Girl," is set to be released in January 2007 on Comedy Central and Warner Bros. Records.
Lisa has also taped several specials for VH1, MTV, and CMT, and was featured on the "Best of" episode of Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn." With frequent spots on XM and Sirius satellite radio, Lampanelli is selling out shows in theaters across the country. Lisa starred in "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector," in which she played a crude dirty broad, and she also starred in the feature film, "The Aristocrats," in which she played a foul-mouthed dirty comic.
She will also appear in the feature film, "Delta Farce," starring Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy and D.J. Qualls, which is set for release in the first quarter of 2007. And she will play a more motherly version of herself in the Owen Wilson vehicle, "Drillbit Taylor," which is to be released in Christmas of 2007.
